Yes Lowes 271764 (2-pack carbon cartridge) is for use with Rainfresh UCS2 as pre-filter. The ceramic post filter (Lowes # 271738) is cleanable and does not need to be replaced for at least one year.

Can I use this replacement catridge for Omni CBF1 ?
Yes Rainfresh CF2 activated carbon filter cartridges (Lowe's 271764) are universal fit and will fit in the Omni CBF1 system.

Hi, I just had two filter cartridges installed by a licensed plumber, first a white sediment filter and the second is a CF2 black filter, the the UV light. The water pressure has dropped significantly. Was this caused by the black filter?
I had low pressure. Changing the black filter made no difference. Removing (carefully) the ceramic filter and scrubbing it with a brush restored the flow to normal. This will have to be done perhaps 2-4 times per year.

City water from a 2 month old CF2-8 undersink filter is fine straight from the tap - but has a strange aftertaste if I let it sit for 4 or more hours. City water from an unfiltered tap does not have that issue - so it is coming from the filter.

Been using for two years now
I enjoy a good cup of coffee and our municipal water was very chlorinated. These carbon filters eliminate the smell and taste. I've used them up to 6 months with no chlorine smell but literature I've read says any filter like this will accumulate bacteria on the outside of the filter (like most filters) and should be changed every 3-4 months. Totally up to you. I highly recommend them, good price and does the job.

Great taste, but short life.
It says it lasts up to six months OR just over 3700 liters. Well, the average Canadian household uses just over 300 L of water per day. So you're looking at 10 to 15 days of use if you use this as a whole house filter. Under the sink use might get you 6 months.
