Description

This 750 sq. ft. superior quality underlayment is made of heavy duty kraft paper and offers a professional performance. It can serve as a barrier between the subfloor and the new floor on above-grade installations, and helps to reduce squeaks in plywood subfloors. Waxed on both sides, it is used for hardwood or nail-down engineered installations, and helps to slide boards into place with ease.

How thick is this in actual inches ( decimal)? It says at top description 0.91 inches. Is this for rsal?

High quality 30 lb. heavy duty Kraft paper for professional performance. Product thickness (mil): 10 not millimeter. A mil is a thousandth of an inch = . 001 inch. It is a typical manufacturing dimension. When an underlayment, slip paper, plastic film etc. product is manufactured the thickness is typically specified as a mil.

Installing solid hardwood on plywood in a unheated cottage, which underpayment product is best as a moisture barrier?

Solid hardwood is nailed to the plywood subfloor, and this product, or Lowes #635142 (Roberts 70-198 SILICONE VAPOR SHIELD 200ft²). Both are good choices, with Lowes #635142 being the best choice.

Is an underlayment really necessary between a hardwood floor and a plywood subfloor which rests over a finished basement. Squeaks, I'm told, are from the nails rubbing against the plywood subfloor.

The number one enemy for hardwood flooring is moisture so placing the wax paper between plywood and the hardwood helps to create a barrier should there be moisture in the plywood subfloor.

Is the 0.91" thickness number provided correct? Seems a bit too thick to be the paper itself.

Not sure what the .91 refers to. The paper itself is definitely not close to an inch thick. I used this paper under my hardwood floor. It worked perfectly for my application.

There is wax on both sides of this paper so there is no right or wrong way to lay this paper.
