They're corner braces. They work fine as intended.
Nobody locally seemed to stock these, so I ordered them out of province from RONA. Even with the (small) shipping cost, they were less expensive to buy at RONA online, and the arrival time was about what I was quoted by ordering through the local H/W stores...
