Essential for Antique flooring
I frequently sand, stain, and refinish antique pine in historic Massachusetts. Minwax Pre-Stain is essential to creating an even color and I’ve completed over 4,000 square feet of projects dating back to the 1620’s with a 100% success rate.

Blotchy spots on table
This product did not work for my table and was a waste of money. I ended up with a blotchy tabletop after using it, which is what I tried to prevent.

Not my favorite
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been refinishing furniture for a few years now and constantly go through wood conditioner. I would say that I have more than enough experience working with these products and know what brands work well. I had not tried the Minwax wood conditioner until I received this product and was not very impressed. After using this product I felt that it did not prepare the wood for staining very well. I had to use a few coats for it to be ready and I was not happy with the results. In the future, I would look for different brands of wood conditioner.

Great performance!

MINWAX Pre-Stain wood conditioner. This product was real easy to use, the instruction on the label are very easy to follow. I do not think my project of refurbishing my parents wooden sign would have turned out as nice without the Pre-Stain.

Great product.

Must have for wood pieces
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband and I work with wood a lot, from restoring wood furniture to creating beautiful wood crafts. We do stain our pieces a lot and did feel like we needed to do a little extra. This pre-stain is absolutely amazing! We sometimes sand our pieces, so we used this without sanding and with sanding. We followed the instructions carefully, blew off the excess and started to mix the conditioner. We brushed in the conditioner and waited about 15 minutes and then started to stain the wood. The pre-stain conditioner really transformed our pieces and made them look very smooth and brought out the natural wood effect. The pieces turned out beautiful. There were no streaks and each piece turned out so even and amazing. Love this stuff. Highly recommend.

Much needed step!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this to prep my stairs before staining. After sanding, wood needs a bit of moisture to absorb the stain evenly. I found this to be easy to apply and low fumes - which was great because it was too cold to have my doors and windows open. You don’t need a lot of product to get the job done either. This will definitely be added to any future staining projects I tackle.
