We are sometimes away for a week or two. Will the MRU17F6AWW convertible freezer power back on after a power failure and return to the selected mode? If it is in freezer mode will it return to that without intervention? Please explain how it works.

If the freezer is unplugged or loses power, the unit will restart automatically at the default setting you last had it on. So far so good
This freezer was 4 cu. ft. smaller than the one we had to replace but as the selection was limited and repair work was going to cost about as much as a new one, we decided to move forward. The salesperson assured us that this brand was popular worldwide so we went ahead and purchased it. So far, we are quite pleased with it. I especially like the industrial steel shelves and the readout on the door when it is opened. Also, though not a deciding factor for us, the machine can be either a freezer or a refrigerator with the push of a button on the readout panel ! It will always be a freezer at our house. This machine is worth your consideration.

The big + I see in this unit
I purchased this product because of the metal shelving, In my mind it is safer than glass and should safely hold more product. Many times a freezer will be packed to the bream, and if a top shelf were to fall most likely the ones below would pancake leaving broken glass to deal with in a salvage operation.
I have had the unit for just over 1 month with no issues at all. I have the freezer set at -10° Fand used my IR Thermal thermometer and surveyed products stored in the door and across all shelves finding items in the door at -7° to -10° and on the shelves tipicaly -17° to -22° so I am pleased with the operation.

Decent product for the price
I like how quiet it is plus it's energy efficient. I just bought it so I can't give a complete review for long term operation. Shelving is sturdy and heavy made to last. I only wish the shelves had more adjustment to them. I have the 17 cubic foot and I really like the lay out inside. I am using mine as a beverage fridge in the garage where it will be subject to both hot and cold temps which is what it's designed for. The outside touch controls are nice and I really like that you can lock the temperature setting to avoid accidental or a child altering of the temperature. It also comes with a physical door lock. Two thumbs up for now.

We researched upright freezers and liked that this one could also be used as a fridge. Delivery of the unit was on time and in perfect condition. It took a bit of maneuvering between 2 ppl to get it down the stairs but it has been working perfectly from day one. I love the metal shelves, they are very sturdy. The bins in the bottom are very roomy, I can hold several bags of veggies or french fries in them and still have space for more items like ice cream containers. The shelves on the door are a little narrow. Sometimes opening the door causes the whole unit to slide so I wish there was a way to lock it in place. All in all, this is a great freezer for the price.

Used as refrigerator instead of freezer, great!
My husband and I wanted a refrigerator without the freezer, and this unit works wonderfully for that purpose! We set it to fridge mode, set the digital temperature and locked it and so far it has been awesome! It makes this fun ding ding ding sound when you open it, it’s great so I can tell if the kids are getting into the fridge lol. Shelves are sturdy, drawers hold quite a lot of produce. I think the only minor complaint is that the light doesn’t reach the bottom shelves (they are not see thru), but that’s not a real issue.

Excessive temperature swing.
There was only one thing that I would describe as sub par. I have an in-freezer thermometer that transmits to a in home receiver. With this I can monitor the refrigerator/ freezer interior temperature without opening the door. There is a swing if 12 degrees between max and min temperature. Example freezer set at 0 degrees F the swing is from -2 to 10 deg F. I consider this excessive with no opening of the door in this period. This swing happens several times per day. The 12-year-old freezer sitting next to this new one has a max swing of 4 degrees F.

Strong seal, quiet
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The most noticeable thing about this freezer is that the magnetic seal around the door is very strong. Pulling on the door “handle” with it empty caused the whole fridge to move. Thus, we open it with two hands. One to hold it back and one to pull the door open.
I am delighted with how quiet it is.
The door is not reversible.
The temperature indicated on the door is the set temperature.
We bought two of these, one to use as a freezer and the other to use as a fridge.

Great freezer
First off I love that there's a thermometer right on the outside that you can always see it lets me know that my frozen foods are on and still cold enough. I love the shelves not being plastic. There's plenty of room on the doors so when you put items and they don't fall out the bottom of the shelf and they're wide enough to put a few items side by side the width is awesome. I like how the door closes it feels airtight. When I open the door it has a perfect area to pull it open and not too hard to open still with that same feeling of being airtight.
