How long do I have to wait before grouting
Ultimately it will depend on substrate, site conditions, thickness of grout line, thickness of mortar bed, etc... but typically grout can be applied 24 hours after setting your tiles. Large format tiles may take additional time.

curious if i can use this product to apply 12x24 inch tiles to a wall for a shower application. will it be strong enough? Mildew resistant sheetrock will be underneath this application.
I was told by Lowes employees that this is best for it because a) it is light and fluffy and easier to work with and b) it is suitable for large tile. This is what I will use for my large 12" x 24" tiles as well.

The perfect mortar
This has become my Go-To mortar for tiling. At least once a month I have to install tile and unless the install requires a specific solution, this is the product I will generally pick up. It mixes really well, and is more forgiving with water quantity (there seems to be a range of water it's happy with, compared to others that go from a bucket of 'clumpy sand' to 'pancake batter' with an ounce added). Super smooth, almost a whipped icing feeling while you key and trowel, and the tiles just settle in and hold fast.
4x16" Walls in a shower over cement board? Done. 24x24" floor tiles? Nailed it. 2x2" Mosaics backing a niche in the shower? So easy!
The off-white colour helps it to stand out from every colour of substrate, and stands out when you're cleaning the joints.
One caution: it is not as 'gritty' as standard mortars, and it seems to be a lot harder to clean up if it's left to set completely before you clean the joints. I strongly recommend you keep your joints clean while setting the tile, as a few minutes extra spent removing anything that squeazed in the space will save you a LOT of time and risk of chipping your tiles the next day.

Professional quality
I am a professional tile, marble, and terrazzo installer and have been for the last 40 years. We use Ultralight and Ultralight S2 on our projects, and this mortar is about as close to those products that's available in retail. I use this on all wall setting applications, wet locations, indoors, exterior, I even use it on floors on occasion. It's a little more expensive than some other mortars, but buy once and cry once. It's one of the best setting material available that's mixed with water only.
