High Quality Starter Mechanics Set+Very Nice Case
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a well rounded and functional high quality set for my automotive mechanical tasks and miscellaneous household repair activities. All components are well organized and clearly marked to indicate metric (blue) or SAE (red) sizes on the tool and the case is also marked to aid when replacing sockets or other tools. All pieces appear very well constructed with quality materials, and I especially like the tight 4 degree ratchets for use in tight or limited spaces. This set is going to get a great workout and be a welcome addition as I undertake my auto restoration project this summer.

So Many Pieces!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our first impression with Kobalt’s 299-piece mechanic’s set is if we would even need every single piece of this kit. The kit - which is heavy - covers every possible base you’d think of with wrench and bits. No need to run to the workbench 3, 8, or 12 times.
And, the tools perform well. The hex key set takes care of any awkward fitting and the socket set makes quick work of lag bolts, etc.
The finish of the tools and pieces is nicely done, with number and sizes etched into the bit.
Overall, we’re stunned to find so many items in this case capable of doing so many things. Wow.

Good home tool set
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This tool set is a good one for a starter set for around the home mechanic and use around the house repairs. The tool's are marked clearly and in order inside the case you can't go wrong with this set adding other tools to this set and you can do about anything you want from small auto repair to the advanced repairs. I would recommend this set of tools and add more Kobalt tools to it and your on the way to doing all the repairs your self.

Selection of metric and standard sockets
I bought this tool kit for my brother and he loved it so much he had me buy another one for our lake house and we use it all the time. Great tool kit for the money!

Good variety of tools, but some negatives.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have mixed feelings about this toolkit. Its best feature is that it contains a vast number of ratchets and sockets in both standard and metric sizes, plus two drivers (one magnetic) with bits, as well as right-angle tools of many sorts (for example, hex wrenches and torx tools). The tools all look good (nice chrome finish) and appear to be well-made. Each tool snaps into its own spot in the extruded plastic case.
You’ll want to ask yourself the question “do I really need a single kit with all these tools?” The entire kit is large and weighs over 20 pounds. I’m kind of small and my back isn’t great. And since I never need both standard and metric sizes for the same job, I’d find it more practical to have two separate kits, or to design this mammoth kit so that it could break apart into standard and metric storage sections. This issue is compounded by the fact that the rows of standard and metric sockets are in interspersed rows rather than one area for standard and another for metric.
Labeling of the tools leaves a bit to be desired. I’m used to sockets that have the size stamped into them. In this kit, the socket sizes are etched in small, sandblasted areas which are hard to read. Between that and the interspersing and metric rows, it takes longer to find the right sockets and to put them back into their places afterwards.
Standard and metric sizes follow a color scheme (red = standard, blue = metric). On the sockets, these colors are painted within a stamped groove—easy to read and not likely to wear off. That’s not the case with the flat wrenches, where the colors are painted on the flat areas and can be scraped off using just a fingernail.
A final note: when I first received this kit, it did not open easily. I pried and pried and finally the case burst open. Many of the sockets spilled all over the floor, requiring 20-30 minutes to get them all back in place. It turns out there is a small plastic rivet near the handle keeping the sides together. The packaging should make this obvious, but doesn’t.

A Good Value Kit, Well-Organized
The Good: Well organized kit with good chrome. Each socket has a part number stamped on the socket. It was not filled with useless items. The bad: the size etching on the smaller sockets is hard to read now with some wear it may be almost impossible to read the size of the socket.

Versatile, Complete, Quality
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a high quality product from a company that has never disappointed me. The set is about as complete as you can get. With 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive, you can tackle most any job. I've used in on a variety of jobs and I've had the right tool every time. There are not only sockets for each wrench size, in English and metric sizes, there are also nut drivers and hex wrenches. I honestly don't know what else they could've stuffed in the case. I also like the fact that all sockets are color coded, so you can pick it up without having to check whether you've got the right type. I cannot recommend this set any higher.
