Kilz Original Low Odour Interior Primer Paint - Bright White - Oil-Based - Stain-Blocker - 3.79 L is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 1335.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Runny and hard to use We decided to paint a wooden Kitchen table and chairs. I had about 1/16 of a can of original oil based Kilz and bought a gallon of the odorless oil based product. We sanded the table and chairs. The original oil based product went on fine. The odorless can was so runny it was like water. We stirred and re-stirred to no avail. The primer just kept running down the spindles of the chairs and pooling at the bottom or dropping to the floor. It was messy to work with and created more work than I bargained for. I will never again use this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stain & odor blocking I use the Kilz low odor Oil base regularly for blocking pet stains & odor. Typically we remove the existing flooring, then roll on the primer, let dry and re-coat any bleed through. Fast drying keeps my guys on track. Nothing worse than installing new floors and having old cat urine odor. A recent customer of our store made several comments on how well the odor reduction worked in a house that a bad kitty had marked for the last several years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time and money for me [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this oil-based primer to use on paneling prior to paint, drawn to the odorless option. However, this product left an uneven surface after having it stirred at the store and stirring again at home and using it within 3o minutes of purchase. The product is also easily scraped from the wall with a fingernail, even after curing for three to four days. Not willing to invest anymore time on this product; will go back to the tried and true original oil-based product. Lesson learned and money lost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kill Oderless #1 [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used Kilz for many years but this was our first go using the oderless. Since I was painting in a small bathroom, it made a huge difference being oderless. The best way to go. Good coverage too. I’m painting over dark wallpaper and this has done the trick as you can see from the picture.. that wall has only Kilz on at that point. The wallpaper was a very deep navy blue with pink flowers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product failure We used this product on a recent project that we did. Liking idea of low odor as we work in peoples lives in homes. I have never in my career as a painter or painting contractor had a primer fail the way this product did. We applied to new wood cabinetry. A slam dunk for even the most mediocre primers. This product is failing. The slightest disruption caused paint and primer pull down to bare wood in so many places. I’m concerned we are looking at a nightmarish and costly endeavor in stripping multiple sets of cabinetry. I attribute this 100% directly to Killz low odor primer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressive Loved the oil- based primer. I was using it on very dark wood paneling and I was very impressed with the coverage and ease of use. AND the last time I used oil-based primer the odor would knock a person down but this was not bad at all. We also has some spots that were bleeding through regular paint and the primer stopped all that. The only change I would make is a prettier can. (I am a girl after all)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Did not go on well. I am refinishing a ply and oak aquarium stand. I sanded old paint with coarse, fine, and extra fine paper. Vacuumed all then rubbed down with a tack cloth. Used a nice brush made for oil based paint. Paint covered well but left brush strokes and bits of drying paint. Had to sand primed surface after first coat dried. Tried a small area of finish coat and was not happy with the result. I re sanded entire piece, applied your competitors primer and then the top coat looked good. I won't use this product again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No such thing as odorless I used this to cover wallpaper in a laundry room. 2 coats did a terrific job. THe smell might be reduced from the old formula, but it's still a bit strong for winter-time painting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No paint is completely oderless. True. To help with oder in paint add one teaspoon of vanilla extract (real stuff, not imitation) for each gallon, then mix/stir, etc. Wala, no oder. Just vanilla. Old painters and most designers know all the tricks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The cat urine smell is gone!! I had just about given up and since I was having new carpet installed I wanted to do something to get rid of the cat urine smell from the pets of the previous owner. Luckily I am on a concrete slab so I applied the Kilz and now when I go into that room I don't smell anything. Excellent product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Got the stink out! We had a severe odor in our basement left over from old renters who allowed their dogs to do their buisness on the carpet. We came up with a plan to grind the floors to removed the left over carpet pad that was still stuck to the concrete and then paint over the concrete with Kilz. It worked like a charm! We are urine odor free and our floor looks so much better. If you want to see more of what we did you can visit our blog http://anurseandanerd.blogspot.com/2013/09/gettin-stink-out-of-basement.html

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What cat urine odor? I read a few reviews before purchasing this product. When I saw that others had used this primer to get rid of urine odors, I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm so glad I did!! We have a very nervous kitty who feels she needs to pee around the litterbox in our basement to show everyone who it really belongs to. (Yes, we've had her to the vet to make sure she's not suffering from anything physically. She's okay - she's just got extreme anxiety since her favourite buddy passed away last year.) Not only did I need a product that is effective at blocking the urine odor, but I also needed a low-to-no odor formula so she wouldn't freak out too much about the change to "her spot". She just inspected the primed area herself, and she seems cool with what we've done to freshen up that area. There's truly very little scent to this product, and, even better, no cat urine smell!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I was told "No strong odors." I recently flipped a condo and it fell to me to redo the short hallway. When I stripped the old wallpaper, a lot of the drywall paper came with it. We primed the walls with Kilz Odorless primer to seal the drywall and to keep the odor at a minimum. Then we textured the walls and primed them again. The building manager was surprised at how it turned out and that we didn't get any odor complaints from other residents.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst experience ever with a Kilz product! I bought this to prime new cabinets for my kitchen. I read that oil based paints hold up better when washed, bumped into, ect. I purchased this product, brought it home, and proceeded to paint my cabinets. To prepare them i sanded them, and then wiped them clean with a tack cloth, allowed them to dry, and then painted them. I installed the cabinets, and waited a 8 weeks before trying to install the hardware. When I went to install the hardware the painters tape lifted the paint off the drawer face. Learned my lesson and tried to be extra careful on drawer two but still some lifted off. I am so mad, I now have to redo the drawer fronts and waste my time fixing something that shouldnt have happened.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent color blocking performance this product covered in one coat a dark red painted wall. the ordorless formula is outstanding for those with a medical condition that are easily aggrivated by chemical odors. and there was no strong paint smell lingering hours later.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If I could I would give Kilz Odorless 10+ stars! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have in the remodeling business for over 30 years. I always use an oil base primer, it is the foundation of a great paint job. Kilz oil based primers prevent out gassing. Out gassing is the little bubbles that appear on a wall during finish painting if a non oil base primer was used. I always use Kilz Ordorless primer if someone will be sleeping in the home that night.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When we bought our house we were told it was just painted with primer and then 2 coats of paint. So when I decided to add some color I bought paint with primer and thought it would be good. Well obviously previous owners were smokers and lines started appearing not only on the plain painted walls but my colored painted ones. Asked some friends and family what to do and they suggested Kilz primer first and then paint. It's been two years and still no lines popping through. I highly recommend Kilz primer to stop the spots and lines from coming through.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low to NO Oder [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Years ago we used Kilz and while it worked to cover the old, so we could paint the new. But it smelled, and gave me serious headaches. Now with the new low oder Kilz, not a problem. Beautiful coverage, no headaches! Thank you Kilz!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kilz low Oder interior primer worked great [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Absolutely five stars for this product low Oder which was great because my lungs can’t take strong smells with asthma and the product itself worked so well I wont buy anything else. It covered the water stains and stains from years and years of yellowing of the walls we used it throughout our home! We used it all throughout the house when we bought it to freshen the place up and we used it again in the bathroom after removing wallpaper that had been on there since the 80s thee is still so much to do in the house so we plan on buying more of this stuff because trust me there’s always more to cover up when we are talking aging homes!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thin, but spreads well and does the job [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the oil base primer so any residual wall paper glue would not seep through the new paint job - bad news. It worked well. The top coat dried without issue and with a nice finish all over. I don't know if one could just use it over unscraped wall paper glue, but it works if you get the majority of it off. I rated it a 4 because it is rather thin and drips easily. you'll be fine if you paint on with the primer in the middle of the brush (wipe off both side of brush on side of the can).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delivered as promoted, love it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our AC unit was in the attic above our formal living room, while I was visiting family in another state (my teen son home holding down the fort) the drip pan overflowed due to the outside drain pipe being clogged with algae. So the water ran into the ceiling and down the wall ... son never noticed! When I came home 2 weeks later what a mess, got the problem fixed and I used the Kilz primer (after everything was dry) and it worked like a charm. Once I painted the ceiling and wall you couldn't tell what had happened! Very happy with your product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic for Painting Over Wallpaper [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Decided to paint over bright flowered glossy wallpaper with bright reds and blues. Walls had two layers of wallpaper with no primer or sizing on sheetrock. Chose to paint over rather than trying to remove. Prep work was clean wallpaper, then sand and spackled seams. Decided on two coats of oil based Kilz Oderless with 2 top coats of latex finish. Turned out Excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Oil Based Primer - no odor - blocked stains - No mildew [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used Kilz Odorless Primer on our 2nd floor bathroom after I removed the wallpaper and thoroughly washed the paste off of the walls. Used this primer on the primer walls and ceiling. I covered the stains which, so far, have not returned and no mildew has appeared on the ceiling or the walls. While painting there was no odor and no odor during or after the drying period. Covered the primer with a tan water based paint on the wlls and the ceiling with white water based satin paint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works ! While my husband and I were out of town for several weeks, a friend came by daily to feed our cats. Unfortunately though, one of the cats was still not very happy and decided to urinate on a section of carpet in our bedroom nearly every day for fives weeks ! After trying every kind of cleaner we could think of, we ended up having to rip out the carpet and pad and replace both. Before putting down the new carpet / pad though, we needed to do something with the concrete underneath which obviously was stained and also smelled bad - though not as bad as the carpet and pad we removed ! We were concerned though that if we didn't seal the concrete the odor would come back in the summer when the room was warmer and more humid (it's in the basement). I read on line about this product for this very purpose and it was also recommended to us by salesperson at Lowes. After cleaning the concrete with a bleach based cleaner - we painted the entire soiled area and it was so, so easy to put paint onto the concrete, one layer was enough, and it dried very quickly. We also painted over the wooden tack strip for the carpet. There is now no odor what so ever. Thank goodness !!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not flow out It leaves terrible brush marks and if rolled with specified cover a very rough surface. If you would like to texture a wall, this is the way to go. It will work with a HVLP spray gun, even though no suggestions are made for doing this on the label. However the gun will be tougher to clean than if you had used an automotive paint. This is awful stuff, I wonder if there is QC problem since many reviewers like the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kilz Kills the Cowboy Oil Slick [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Howdy, Ya'll! This here story is 'bout the time when a cowboy theme caused a ruckus. I done wrangled me up some rope, put wire in the middle and fashioned ma boys' names out of it. Put that there lasso rope up on the wall proud as a peacock in a flocka penguins. Well, they outgrown the cowboy theme and I done took 'er down. And what do you know? An oil slick as big as Texas! Searched pert near everwhere for a fix, then I found me some Kilz. Put that on the wall and whaddaya know? That there stain was good as gone! Thank ya kindly, Kilz!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stirred, not shaken Because it drys quickly, there is tendency to get lumpy paint if not all used at on time. Keep airtight lid on can after pouring into the paint tray only what one can use in 20 minutes or less. A piece of Glad Wrap or equivalent followed by a 5/8" board that covers the can's circumference with a brick on top on top of the board works well. It is cleaner and faster than wiping the can's rim and lid after each pour. I like the oil version over the latex. I know there will be no bleed through of the children's (alcohol or water based) magic marker artistry when using oil base. This is a time saver. Who wants to open a paint can and clean a brush to repaint a one sq ft piece of wall or less? I do not clean rollers that were in oil based paint. I toss the roller after one use. It is less expensive to buy a new one than to drown the old one in mineral spirits and a guarantee of no lumpy roller flakes upon next use either. Kilz Oil Primer also works well as a base coat over old polyurethane surfaces, such as varnished baseboard or trim moldings. It eliminates the need to use toxic chemicals to de-gloss the old trim. This is both a time and money saver. OMG, when will I find the time to do it over? Do it right the first time. BTW, I am not in the paint business or a Lowes employee. Oh, yes, stir well before each pour!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible to use, watery, supper rough finish mess! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this as a low odor primer as I own parrots. First of all its NOT clearly labeled as an oil based primer. Even after stirring for 20 mins it was like water, rolling it on the walls made a huge mess that I was not prepared to clean because as previously noted its not clearly labeled as oil based. I spent a full week filling and sanding the walls super smooth as I'm painting a dark flat color that will show every imperfection. This primer ruined all of my prep work IT DOES NOT SELF LEVEL like every other paint or primer I have ever used. My walls are now like sandpaper!!!! And I had to hand scrap all of that spatter off my hardwood floors.
