Rated 1 out of 5 by Bill from Very Rough SUrface after Drying I had a new bookcase built with pine so I wanted a good stain blocker for the knots. I chose Kilz Oil base Odorless in the gallon and rolled it on using a 3/8 knap 4" roller. Prior to applying the primer I sanded the wood and filled all holes to get a smooth surface. After the primer dried it was extremely rough and now I have to sand the whole bookcase over again. This is more a bookcase wall that if 10 feet high and 18 feet wide. To say I am unhappy is an understatement. In the areas where I used a brush you can see brush strocks. This primemr did not appear to level itself at all. This was a brand new gallon that was shaken at the store. I am very dissatisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Margi from top notch calci-coater! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Antique homes frequently have the old calcimine coating on ceilings. Often, homeowners have put a latex coating on and the result was a peeling mess, so they call in the professionals! Years ago, I used to purchase a specific calci-coater that had high fumes. When I discovered the Kilz Odorless, it gave me the product I prefer to work with 100% of the time and I get 100% satisfactory results! I can scrape the calci to a stable surface, roll on the Kilz Odorless and float a new skimcoat surface that makes the ceiling look new! Please keep this product around! I know oil is going by the wayside, but some applications just HAVE TO BE oil!

Rated 5 out of 5 by John from Blocks out stains well I used Kilz low oder oil based primer to prime over a pop corn textured ceiling, and some walls that were previously painted with oil. You have to mix the primer throughly before applying it to the surfact, after its mixed it goes on the surface fairly smooth. And it gives a good pre-paint surface that accepts water based latex paints with an outstanding, bright, colorful, clean finish. No tannin, nicotine, or crayon marks will bleed through, and it kills all odors. A great primer to use on most any surface, prior to painting, that gives you a bright good looking paint job with most any paint you use over it. I highly recommend this primer, especially if you have stains you want to get rid of like smoke, nicotine, crayon, and children's hand prints.

It has not only wood paneling but gypsum wallboard printed with wallpaper design! I was scared to death to even start a renovation because I had seen pictures of failed attempts where people had to completely gut their place and start over. I didn’t want the expense of hanging new drywall through out so I knew this product was worth the time and effort at little cost. It covered that awful wallpaper print in the kitchen, bathrooms and bedroom and the pattern never showed through! Paint made it a completely successful renovation; I wish I could post pictures.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Southronlady from Think Twice Before Using ODORLESS KILZ Purchased this Odorless KILZ for priming oak cabinets after using the original primer on a cold winter day, when I didn't have great ventilation. The fumes from the original KILZ were quite overwhelming, even while using a charcoal filter mask. The smell permeated the house about knocking out the other members of my family. The odorless KILZ is about $10 more. The Odorless KILZ took some time to mix and had thick paint settled at the bottom. When I finally got it mixed, the primer went on like water with very poor coverage.....It proved useless to me for cabinets, and I went back to the Original KILZ which goes on thickly and helps to self-level the wood grain. I don't recommend this product for painting cabinets.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JasonB from Sticky, messy primer with a fried shrimp smell I'm not sure if I pruchased a bad gallon, but there was 3 inches of "oil" when we opened the can which I thought would have been remedied by shaking and stirring...but no luck. We tried to stir it as best we could but it was still the consistency of skim milk. It smelled like fried shrimp and stunk up our entire garage and house. I tried to roll it on anyway and it was too thin to do anything. We had to throw away our roller, paint tray, and brushes because none of them would come clean. It took half an hour to get the paint off my fingers and I ended up having to scrub my hands with a scotch brite pad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tweettina72 from Perfect for those sensitive to fumes [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After removing 20 year old wallpaper from never-been-primed kitchen walls, I needed to use an oil based primer before repairing damage with joint compound. As an asthmatic in the dead of an Ohio winter, I researched primers, and opted for Kilz odorless. I had it shaken at the store and used it immediately the same day. Went on thick, covered in one coat, dried fast. Very LITTLE odor. Typically, fumes from cleaners, paint, and the such irritate my airways. I can honestly state that I had no troubles with my breathing with this product and that I prefer the consistency of the odorless to many other oil based primers I've used in the past. Thank you, Kilz, for making a great product that's easy to use.
