I need to paint a new stucco ceiling, can I use a tinted alkyd primer or will latex work?

Hello 11Rose22, Great question. Yes, our primer can seal pet odors. However, depending on how severe is the odor, multiple coats may be needed.

can this be tinted

Hi, uncletommy. The Kilz Original Primer can be tinted. Keep in mind that this does not mean it can be used as a final coat and still needs a top-coat applied over it. Tinted primers are used to exaggerate the color that the top-coat will be. I hope this helps, and best of luck with your project - Vince

The previous tenants must have had a oil fire in the kitchen, and I can see it on ceilings and where they tried to clean it. They liked to fry everything. Will KILZ MAX Interior Primer, Sealer, Stain Blocker block this oily residue?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My father passed away last year, and left me his home; a single wide trailer on 11 acres. The land was beautiful. The trailer was old and unkept. Rotted floors, thirty years of tar and nicotine coated every surface. It took 3 of us about 4 months to clean and renovate that sad little trailer. 15 gallons of Kilz later, it looks and smells better than new. New cabinets and floors make a difference, that's for certain. But Kilz gave us a fresh blank slate to start anew. This was my first experience with Kilz and I'm a believer. I have the before and after pictures to prove that with Kilz, anything is possible!

We spent hundreds of dollars and time to remediate this odor, assuming it was from pets on the floor. We removed flooring and treated the floor multiple times to no avail. We were frustrated and thought we made a terrible mistake. We then discovered that it was not the floor at all. It was the paint on the walls. We went out immediately and bought Kilz original and painted the accent walls that were suspect. We couldn't be happier with the results and the smell of clean air. The Kilz sealed the odor completely. Thank you.

The smell was practically tangible in those rooms. We bought Kilz original because it had been recommended by several people, and specified smoke as one of the odors it would cover, and it certainly did. After washing the walls, applying 1 coat of Kilz and 2 coats of flat paint, (and of course, cleaning the other surfaces in the room) you can't tell that the smoker ever lived here. I have a pretty sensitive nose for tobacco smoke, and even when the sun shines in and heats the room further, there is no whiff of smoke. Thank you Kilz!

Kilz Original transformed it into “new home smell!” It has been our go to primer for tough stains and odors since. Now, 2018 - we buy a mobile home on a lake. Of course once it is ours, we notice the overwhelming smell of dog, cat, urine and fried food all combined. Ripped up the floors and KILZED (our new adjective) from floor to ceiling and smell is gone!! Honestly, I did a bedroom floor in a like product for convenience, because our closest hardware store does not carry Kilz. I had to go to another store and buy 5 gallons of Kilz because the other product did not hold a candle to it!

Although he had not been in the home for a couple of years his favorite smoking room, the bathroom still smelled. When I took a hot shower I almost choked on the nicotene coming out of the wallpaper. Stripped paper, spackled and 2 coats of Kilz O to be sure and 2 coats of topcoat and excellent results! Contractor painted a ceiling with water stains with Zinsarr 123. He had to redo with Kilz O due to bleed through. One thing, why is a TSP substitute recommended and what is a substitute? One other thing, I let Kilz dry for 24 hours before recoating on recommendation of pros. Also gave 4 stars on ease of use because after all its oil.

I used a water base primer from abother company on my particle board subfloor and the stains showed through before it was done drying. I bought a rental house and there were horrific subfloord under the carpet. I'm talking mold and dog pee galore as well as dirt and other yuck. The smell was so bad I thought I may have to replace the subfloor. But after scrubbing the muck off and trying two other primers I decided to give this one a go. One coat and all the stains amd odor was gone. I did two thick coats and went up the walls too. The room smells fresh and you would never know what kind of nasty was under there.

The one part that scared me was the walls. Every wall painted in a bright unflattering color (red, blue, black) I immediately thought it was gonna take a ton of money & several cans of paint for this job. I went to Home Depot and picked up a can of Kilz Interior Primer paint & was absolutely shocked, yet extremely pleased how well the paint went on and the complete coverage one coat covered! I will never worry again when I see colored walls again...

We used bleach, vinegar, and urine out... but, we could still smell the lingering gross odor. We used Kilz on the walls and repainted. What a difference! However, we would like to ask if we can use it on the concrete floors that was under the carpeting. The concrete has absorbed the pet urine and feces and we still can't quite get the odor out by cleaning. We plan on recarpeting over it. But, we also want to know if we would ever be able to place tile down if we use this oil base kilz? Any help is greatly appreciated!
