Clamp is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The clamps work very well I am pretty new to wood working, but needed some long clamps for making table tops. I picked up a couple of these and they worked out very well. They provide impressive compression force and are well designed and constructed with durable materials. I have not had them long, but they seem like they will last a long time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Performs well; some areas to improve The advantage of these clamps over lighter duty bar clamps is that they do not flex very much in use and the jaws stay parallel. The attached photo is of some glass panel doors in hard maple I'm working on. I've been woodworking for over 25 years so I feel confident in saying that a well-cut and properly-fitted joint should not need a lot of force to hold it together during glueup. Typically, you would want to overcome some small amount of warpage of the wood and hold the assembly square and true, but you can compensate for warping as you machine and fit your pieces. For those who say that these clamps provide inadequate pressure to pull wood together (see other reviews), I would say if you need that much pressure, you're doing something wrong with your woodworking. No glue joint under a considerable amount of residual stress will survive long. Also, a joint subjected to too much pressure will be starved of glue (squeezed out), making it weak. So, while you may be able to pull a joint together that way (and the mechanical advantage of the handscrew will certainly provide all the force you need), you are building a lot of residual forces in the joint that way, and over time, the joint will certainty fail. These Irwin clamps sit very well on the bench in a jaws-up position which is essential for panel and frame assembly. In comparing these Irwin clamps to my similarly designed Bessey K3.550's (seen in the background of the picture), functionally they work about the same. The Bessey clamps have a bar with teeth on them for the clamp to index into (see photo); the Irwin clamps have a smooth bar. I found you have to back the Irwin hands-free off pretty far to be able to reposition it on the bar, mildly annoying, earning 3 of 5 stars. The Bessey clamps are easier to adjust. Clamping pressure is adequate for woodworking. The rubberized handles give you good grip; my Bessey clamps have wooden handles which don't provide non-slip grip, but that has never been a problem. Incidentally, is give the Bessey clamps 4 of 5 stars, jus' sayin! If you REALLY want clamping pressure, you can't beat the heavy I-beam Jorgenson clamps, but that's overkill IMO. I very, very rarely use them. (Photo)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from smooth jaw action, works as well as old Bess... FIrst, I have two 48” Bessey parallel clamps and both of them are mystifying me because they are so difficult to open and move the jaws inward. So when i saw these Irwin clamps at a somewhat better price, I bought two just to see if they would perform like old Bess. It turns out they do. I have no trouble adjusting the movable jaw, get more than adequate pressure for glue ups, and the squeeze out of glue that dries on the bar is MUCH easier to remove than on old Bess. I’m sold. Ill be adding more 48” clamps to my collection and getting at least four of the shorted length clamps too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Greaat clamps These are great clamps and i would have given 5 stars but they are a little heavy. I built a table for my Daughter and need 48 inch clamps to clamp 3 pcs of cypress together and a different stores 48 inch clamps only opened to 42 1/2 inches and they were made very cheap. The clamps from Lowes are very heavy duty and do open to the 48 inches. Glued up the 3 11 1/2 x 2 inch thick with 3/8 dowels and number 20 biscuits and started squeezing and all 3 boards pulled together with no gaps. I am very satisfied with this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Non-parallel jaw clamp On the clamp I purchased, the fixed jaw was out of square by approximately 5/16". When closed, the jaws touched at the top, with a large gap at the bottom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clamp Irwin [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you need long distances of clamping, this is your answer. Forget about the rest and choose the best.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Irwin Quick-Grip 24-inch Clamps [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Woodworking has been my hobby for over 30 years. My projects involve a lot of gluing. These Irwin clamps are superior to pipe clamps because they allow you to clamp both horizontally and vertically. The gripping strength and ease-of-use (one-handed operation) make gluing up projects a less stressful job. The only drawback is that they are much more expensive than pipe clamps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Large Clamp [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This clamp has great padding and a strong grip. For the price, it well exceeded my expectations when compared to other plastic housed clamps. Although plastic on the outer shell, the inside liner is reinforced with a aluminum. Strong clamp and would purchase another.
