Moen has excellent customer service
I also purchased this for my elderly Mother. We experienced the same rust problem as the previous reviewer, however I contacted Moen and they are sending me a new one. Maybe it was a bad batch, but their customer service was excellent. Even with the rust problem, that is being taken care of, this product is well designed and has assisted my Mother greatly in maintaining her independence. It is sturdy, easy to install, easy to clean around and doesn't get in the way if you are visiting or don't need the assistance. I register every purchase with the manufacturer and I think it helps if there is a problem.

At 24" wide, may not fit all toilet areas.
This is a good product, but please note:
1. The assembled unit is about 24" wide, which was too wide for my dad's bedroon toilet area. Because you can't change the position of the anchoring brackets, you must have about 12" of free space on both sides of the toilet, measuring from the center of the toilet between the two toilet bolt holes. If you have less space than this on either side of the toilet, then you won't be able to install it.
2. It is fairly easy to assemble, as long as you can remove the toilet seat bolts and the toilet seat. The anchoring brackets for the safety rail go under the toilet seat and are held in place by the same toilet seat bolts that hold the toilet in place.

My parents find this very helpful
My parents have found this helpful since I installed it a few days ago. It doesn't look bad and was fairly easy to install. I noticed some people commented that you can't lift the bars to clean - perhaps they have changed the design, because I lift/tilt mine all the way back out of the way to clean or for standing.
It would be nice if this were designed to accommodate elongated toilets a bit better. Also, if the back of your seat/lid has large "tabs" where the bolts attache, you may have to install the bars a bit farther back than would be ideal, in order to make it fit.
I'll be curious to see how it holds up.

Perfect for toilets with standard bowl
This product is very sturdy, attractive (for what it is), well made and super easy to install. It has one design flaw: there is no adjustment that will make it fit an elongated toilet bowl. The front crossbar was clearly only designed for standard round toilet bowls because when installed on elongated bowls the front crossbar blocks the front part of the bowl. We just replaced all our toilets with ADA height compliant elongated bowl styles so I had to use an alternate design safety rail that uses the floor for front rail support rather than the toilet bowl.

Does not require 12" each side
My husband just had back surgery and we needed some extra support for him. We almost did not purchase this item, however, because a previous reviewer said it required a 12" clearance on either side of the toilet. We decided to take a chance, and discovered that it fit easily in our space. We have only 8" on each side and it worked perfectly. It was affordable, very easy to install, sturdy enough for the purpose and a comfortable height. Definitely recommended.

Gift for 93yo Dad
My Dad loves this. It makes him feel safer and it gives me peace of mind knowing that he can remain in his home as he wishes and maintain his independence. This was a purchase recommended by his occupational therapist. In her catalog the cost was $89.00. At Lowe's the price was $39.99 before their veterans discount.
I thought it would be an annoyance to his friends and guests but, even the able bodied and young actually like it. It is not bad looking either! It was assembled and installed in a little less than 10 minutes using only a flat head screwdriver.
We are grateful to Lowe's for carrying this and grab bars to assist the disabled and elderly especially at such a reasonable cost.

This seat is simple to install and works very well. I have tried many of the medical store devices and they do not work as well as this product. After several joiint replacements, I am thrillled to find a product that is attractive and not an eye sore in the bathroom.

big "boost" for my mom
rails are very sturdy and would probably work for just about anybody.. it lifts in the front when cleaning just enough to be able to clean under the bar. The only downside is if your tank is curved forward at all or has a tight space it won't fit. We had to buy a new toilet seat to make enough room but after that, I consider it an excellent helper.
