Can you string multiple sets of these lights together? If so, what is the maximum number of sets you can string together?

No I don't think so but can't check for sure as they are currently on my fully decorated tree. I have each of my 2 strings plugged in individually into a power bar. That being said the cord between the plug and the lights is very light and very long - I'd say at least 5 feet - so you have a lot to work with. I have had no problems decorating with the sets as they are. 2 sets more than enough for our little 6 ft tree.

The description says that they are indoor/outdoor and waterproof. I the instructions say that the transformer needs to be away from falling snow or rain.  Does this mean that I can’t place these outdoor lights outside, connected to an extension cord?

Last year I put mine outside so I put the transformer in a small plastic bag. They're still working fine this year.

Is there an option to have either clear or multicolour?

There are multiple modes and options but they can’t just be white. The closest would be having just the red and white bulbs light up but then you only have half of the lights since the blue and green aren’t lit.
