GOAL ZERO Ranger 300 94.3 X 31.3 X 3.8-in Briefcase Portable Solar Panel is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goal Zero solar panels Update.. for those of you who cannot use Goal Zero panels for some reason, maybe you should look into a electric start generator. Just sayin.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Decent But Not Durable Pros: -- It is lighter -- It has more power -- Less concern of cracking the panels -- Better bag design makes it easier to remove and replace Cons: -- Awkward, harder for a single person to set up by themselves -- No way to secure it in briefcase mode other than holding the handles together or stuffing it into the bag, no clips like on the Boulder 200 -- Cheap construction means the edges are wearing down quickly. The corners are not reinforced metal like on the Boulder 200; they have thin plastic protectors that are grinding away. Paint along the bottom is quickly scraping off due to being so close to the ground. See photos for examples after a single day of use. Final thoughts: I now own both this and a Boulder 200 and while the 300 has some advantages if I bought again I would go with another Boulder. It is designed to last and this 300 just feels like they cut too many corners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Goal Zero solar panels I have the Ranger 300, Nomad 200, two Nomad 100, and a Nomad 50. On a sunny day with all the panels chained I can get @ 485 watts draining into my yeti 1500.. I can charge my mower batteries, my power tool batteries, and run a small fridge no problem. if you can imagine a bee hive (YETI) and worker bees, (smaller batteries) then you can really power pretty much anything with the Goal Zero setup. Oh, and I have experimented let me tell you. Thanks Goal Zero, very impressed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Panels are great, design is not. Performance is good, can hit nearly 300w in ideal conditions. The wiring quality is good, serviceability of wiring is standard solar panel stuff. The legs are far from desirable. While the intent was to simplify the deployment and put-away, they do not perform well to hold the panels, the panel tilt cannot be adjusted, the side panels are just hanging and begging for a small gust of wind to topple the whole kit over. I find myself having to get a bit creative with ground stakes and bungee cables to hold things in place and this seems to do the job. The panel is big and heavy enough while folded up that the cheap fabric case is quite cumbersome to manage by yourself. Mine had endured about 20 deployments now and the zipper teeth of the case are already looking pretty ugly, the case is absolutely not going to last. Other brands semi-hard cases that hold shape are a far superior design. The plastic corners on the panel frames are useless, they are brittle and crack when barely bumped. I tore all of them off to avoid unknowingly leaving them behind at campsites. The other brand that rhymes with "energy" executes a perfect weather and foolproof design throughout although their panels do not meet this Goal Zero 300w ouput.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wind effects This is my second review of the same product but I couldn't see a way to edit the original review. My weather ap says winds of 16 MPH max and my handheld wind meter measured 10.7 MPH and my panel is on its face. Gusts over 16 MPH were certainly possible, but be advised. GZ has no rating for wind speeds in the user guide. The Boulder panels, due to the higher weight ratio are still standing. The panel should be pretty easy to stake down, but you'll be supplying your own stakes. Looks like it has been about 3 months since my original review and the power keeps flowing from the panel, so thumbs up for that (I did have a competitor's panel fail after a few weeks once). Also, I did try to click on the terms & conditions link to see if I am violating them by posting a second review, but the link takes me to the product page. So, GZ if you have any issues with this, I'd be glad to consolidate my reviews or work with you in good faith.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Shoddy work from an otherwise good company Good things first: The company ships fast and the packaging is good. It works. I get about 70% of the 300W generation at peak time/conditions at 37° 20' N. It is light and compacts nicely. They provide a nice velcro strap for the cord. Bad things: The plastic corners keep popping off and two have broken. It is big and is trick to deploy without a second person. The bag came with a tear in it. Not a big deal, but disappointing. Other things: It is shorter than the Boulder 200 and taller than the Boulder 100. It is quite wide, which could be an issue with shadows. Goal Zero doesn't provide a way to penetrate a wall with their Anderson Powerpole cables/connectors. I worked something up with some stuff I bought online that works well, but GZ should make something. Also, I ended up having to slice a bit of the fingerproof guard off to make them mate up with the third party stuff but that wasn't too hard. But don't get me wrong, I actually really like the fingerproof design and would have loved to find a solution that didn't involve a saw. The frame is intact so far, but due to the lightness, I feel the need to be gentle with it. The legs basically unfold themselves, which is different from the other panels in the Boulder series. I hope they last. I've had really good luck with the other boulder panels, the two Yeti powerstations, the home integration kit, the expansion tanks, the external charger, and every cable, combiner, and case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent power/weight ratio, and storage size We began using this Ranger 300 solar array three weeks ago, and it has produced 245 watts in slightly hazy sunshine. Its solar efficiency (actual output / rated output) has exceeded that of our Nomad 200 and Nomad 100 solar arrays, and has been roughly comparable to our Boulder 200 array. Compared to the Boulder 200, the Ranger 300 provides 50% more power while weighing 3 pounds less and folding more compactly for storage. Haven't had to clear bird droppings from this non-glass cover, yet, so we can't comment about ease of cleaning. We chose to reinforce the carrying case with corrugated panels to protect the Ranger 300 solar panels when stored. The Ranger 300 has excellent power/weight ratio, and storage size.
