Description
This Edsal shelving unit is made of steel for sturdiness. The black finish is resistant to corrosion. It features five adjustable shelves made of wire supported by beams and side braces for strength. Each shelf can hold 1,000 lbs of weight when the weight is evenly distributed across the shelf. The wire shelves adjust in increments of 1.5-in. The shelves can be installed with beams and brace edges facing down for a flat storage surface or facing up to create a tray.

Don't buy, I'm Taking them back tomorrow !
2 of the side bars were only half painted leaving the bare metal showing through. That should have been my first clue that they were basically "crap". It took almost 2 hours to put together. Oh don't bother looking for a diagram or instructions, there arent any. The top half is secured to the bottom half by one little slip bolt on every corner with the lower bolt stabalizing the whole bottom half. I have absolutely NO confidence they will still be standing tomorrow morning. THey were a total waist of an afternoon. Now iI get to waist 30 min tearing them apart 30 min driving back to Lowes to stand in the long return line and 30 min drive home.

Really poor design/ Missing parts
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wished I had read the reviews as the poor reviews were spot on. Top and bottom sections do not have a connector like the item pictured on the description. Directions were very poor and even if you use one of the shelf brackets to combine the two sections as the directions state it was very flimsy. So I used some short bolts and overlapped the upright parts which looked like it might work but only to find out that I was missing one the upright parts! Don't waste your time as I'm sure there are better products out there I can't believe there were actually positive reviews.

Picture does not show actual product
Picture of the product shows the shelf by Edsal, with 5-tier fully adjustable shelves. Also pictured in the product photo are post couplers, which allow the upper and lower halves of the shelf to be stacked. Well, these post couplers were not included, in fact, they are not even included on the part list! I have other Edsal shelves, did they suddenly stop including these? The assembly instructions want you to use a shelf bracket to connect the upper and lower half... well than that shelf is fixed and not adjustable, isn't it? Now I have to buy more hardware to make this shelf work for my purpose. Please be more transparent about the actual product and show an updated photo on the website before I buy 4 of them. Thanks.

Shelf is not stable when stacking all shelves.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Shelf materials are well constructed, however when combining the shelves into a 5 stack, the middle shelf is supposed to link the lower and upper corner brackets. The shelf bolt cannot be tapped in properly to secure it to the upper corner brackets because there is nothing to hold up the upper bracket except for the lower brackets edge. Because of this design, if the whole unit was to be moved, the upper and lower corner brackets could misalign and allow the upper bracket to slide down and dislodge from the shelf bolt. This also makes lifting and moving the shelf difficult because the upper brackets come loose when you lift them up.

Cannot support even 300lbs on a single shelf
Bought this with the intention of putting a 40 gallon fish tank on it. It seemed like a very durable product in the store and would fit my needs. Got it put together, got the fish tank on it, 30 minutes go by and my fish tank is shattered on the floor. The metal grate that rests on the shelf had bent inwards from the weight of the tank and was enough for the rest of the grate to fall through the shelf. I honestly would not recommend this to anyone who needs it for durability and strength purposes. Maybe for stacking decorations, but there are definitely cheaper options.

Weak design
The product looks good but the upper and lower halves of the unit are held in place only by one pin in the top and one in the bottom legs at the middle shelf at each corner . With the need of having the middle shelf located where it is there is little adjustment for shelf heights for the remaining shelves. There is no support for the top leg halves to rest on but the thickness of the metal used in the shelf legs which are less than a sixteenth of an inch thick which makes it a very unstable design and what could be an accident waiting to happen. I just used the two shelf halves as a 3 layer then another 2 layer shelf unit not stacking them.

Stop Looking - Purchase These
Great selves! Simple to assemble - no screws, bolts, no lost or missing nuts. The shelve brackets fit into slots in the corner pieces and are simple to assemble. I was surprised about how little time it required to assemble and the lack of the wobble one finds in the usual inexpensive shelving units.
One item to keep in mind - the unopened box weights 73 pounds and is a challenge to work with loading and unloading from your vehicle.
I wish I had found these shelves 40 years ago in lieu of all the junk I have purchased over the years...

Doesn't Have Corner Couplers
As someone else mentioned, this unit does not have the couplers shown in the picture which makes it extremely difficult for one person to assemble, and it makes the product weaker. This unit is supposedly is rated for 5,000 pounds total, 1,000 pounds per shelf. I bought several similar Edsal 5,000 pound units four years ago and the old ones are much more sturdy, with double walled corner rails and couplers to join the top and bottom halves. These have the same ratings of the ones I purchased before but don't come close to the previous quality I had with Edsel.
