Roof deicing cable is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Holy Hot Spaghetti, Batman! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This spaghetti-like creature was purchased during an arctic blast that left my gutters and roof clogged with glacier sized backups. Hot water from the garden hose melted much of it leaving enough spAce to wiggle in without getting stuck like a caveman waiting to be found by explorers thousands of years from now. The Hot Spaghetti wire did the trick to keep things flowing down the shoot like a water slide for nature's little critters. It'll need to be placed correctly now that the recent ice age has just ended. For now, seems to be a great choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Help for Ice dams We purchased this because we damaged the one we had that followed the valleys in our roof. They are a lot easier to install in warm weather than they are during a blizzard. Once the temperature drops and the cable gets cold, it's a bit difficult to maneuver, but we managed. These do a good job, but they don't make anything specific for a metal roof so it's a bit more challenging.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My house does not have its soffits vented and after 5 yrs here and icicles over my front door and roof i tried this heat tyape out last year....it worked like a charm. This fall I am going to do another corner of the house with the product. This fixed my problem but its really only a band aid for improper ventilation in my attic space/soffits, but its easier than fixing the real problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for thawing gutters Located in Alaska, some winters have more ice dams building up than others and this year was more than usual. I bought this 100 feet of heat cable mid-winter and used it to thaw and remove ice building up in and above my gutter. I'd cleared the snow 3-4 feet up from the gutter and just laid coils of heat cable on the ice. It quickly melted through it and on one warm day or two the pieces of ice just scraped off and the entire gutter thawed out and drained. I will install this cable or a properly sized one this summer to avoid ice damming in the future, but it does work well as a temporary ice thawing system. Much better than trying to chop ice and damaging your shingles. Just be careful using tools around it to avoid damage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Deicing Kit I've Found These EasyHeat cables are available in 60 to 120 foot lengths. You need to plan out your installation and pick cables to suit. The better the plan, the easier the installation and performance. There is an excellent design guide in the box, but I don't think this guide is online. If you're installing these cables for the first time, I suggest you buy the 60 foot kit, be careful with the box and just remove the guide, study it in detail and if the 60 foot kit is too short, repack it carefully and take it back and get the lengths you need. Some unintuitive things you should keep in mind; the cables should not be touching the gutter, they're suspended by clips. The idea is that the cable acts as a "conduit" for melt water. The cables should follow the slope of the gutter and continue all the way to the bottom of the downspout. If done properly, ice dams and ice damage at the overhang of your house will be eliminated. If you really want to do a good job, you need an electrical circuit convenient for your installation. Try to plan for the power plug to be near an electrical outlet, and somewhere convenient add a switch and pilot light (available at Lowes) which will remind you the circuit is on. Make sure the cable does not touch back on itself; use the clips to keep them apart.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ice dam relief [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A bit difficult to use clips. First snow northern Michigan recieved 10+ inches. Good test for the very first snow. Heavy and wet melted it fast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As advertised. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works as advertised. Will cut through snow/ice. Note that the cable is very hard to install *after* snow; but that is the nature of the beast.
