Great little driver
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed a smaller than 20v driver which would fit into smaller areas and be easier to carry around to those smaller less demanding jobs.... I had recently read in Family Handyman that 12 v brushless drills are up to most tasks so when I saw the DeWalt one on sale I decided to take a chance. Am I ever glad I did... it has enough power to do most driver and drill work while being really compact. It has all the features of the larger 20v cousin such as two speeds, torque setting and reverse. It even has a battery power indication... press a button on the battery and it tell you how much it has left. I am absolutely happy with this and now all I hope is that it has a nice long life......

Nice drill but very short lifespan
My drill stalled without any load. I couldn't find the receipt so I can only go by the mfg date code. Customer service told me it is under the 3 year warranty and receipt is not needed. Sent the product to Dewalt for repair. They told me they need to charge me for the repair since it is beyond the 1 year warranty and the 3 year warranty does not cover "normal wear or abuse". It is very disappointing that after using the drill occasionally, it is considered normal wear for it to fail in less than 3 year. I would call it defective for a drill to last less than 3 year under very light use but too aggravating to argue.

Excellent Drill
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this drill a couple weeks ago and I am completely impressed with it. As a woman in carpentry, I love how this drill fits my hand. It is lighter weight, yet it still has incredible power and all the torque I need to get my projects done. I love that the torque is adjustable making it useful for big and little projects. From screwing together my furniture pieces to hanging bridle hooks in my horse barn, this is my go to cordless drill from now on. Over all I would highly recommend it.

Lightweight, compact, and chuck wobvles out of box
This tool feels great in the hands and is lightweight. However, the chuck wobbles right out of the box and is bad enough that I was not able to make precise, small holes. I don’t get why these companies let these drills with bad wobble pass QC. Same with the red brand. We pay top dollars for a supposedly quality product and they come wobbly more often than not.

WOW !
This dewalt 12v extreme fits your hand really nice. Big improvment over the old stile. Has really nice power for a 12v. Super light and compact. With having a wood shop it will be go to drill. I would recommend it every one. Dewalt has done a great job with this drill. The light is bright and you will be able to see in the dark the screws heads with no shadows. No wobble in the chuck.

Not so great
Mine lost all of it's torque after driving about 2 dozen #8 x 2 inch screws. Thought it was the battery, but the charger said it was full. Took it back and upgraded to the 20 volt model.

Very Good Quality
I'm very satisfied with the quality of this DeWalt kit...it fits my needs exactly. The 12v size was what I was looking for with enough power making it a versatile tool for my garage/home use. So far I've used it to drill holes with a 1" paddle bit which it handled with ease and, screwing in wood screws. With the socket adapter bit this drill works well enough for use as a nut driver, too.
Some features that stand out to me are the one-handed chuck making it easy to lock on to drills/bits and, most impressive is the speed controller for the brushless motor. With the clutch adjusted for light-duty and using slow RPMs this will make it easy to assemble/dissemble anything with machine screws. There's no risk of striping threads in soft metals like aluminum or thin sheet metal.
Well worth purchasing...I highly recommend it.

Bad deal so far
The initial use and features are good, but this tool has been inoperable for the majority of the time I have owned it now. I first used it to put up some framing and gyp board in a room, to finish it as a painting gallery. It performed well until I had issues that I attributed to the batteries. Batteries were replaced under warranty (waited for them to be replaced twice. The warranty fulfillment person ended up sending the wrong type the first time so I waited again). Now the batteries are OK, but the drill does not work. I have no idea what is wrong with it now. The foot light turns on for an instant and then nothing happens. The light goes out, right away and the drill does not turn. It started to work again but now is inoperative. As mentioned, there is no indication why - it just does not turn. This is true in both speeds and both directions. Nothing works. So now, I have had the tool about eight or nine months or more and been able to use it about 1 month total, out of that time.
