Built to last
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have had this for almost a year. Used everyday. Crawling around attics, rooftops and crawl spaces. Dropped it off of buildings and it still hammered away. I thought I lost it over the winter for about 3 weeks. I finally broke down and bought a second one after I couldn’t remember where I left it. That same day I returned to a call and there it was sitting on top of the Air conditioner I had been working on. Still had a full battery and took right off. After 3 WEEKS in Indiana winter weather! Cleaned off some rust and am still using it. Kept the new one as a backup! I love my Dewalt tools!!

DeWalt is pretty much the ultimate
DeWalt tools are pretty much the ultimate name in affordable and quality tools right now. Some other brands are cheaper and less quality. Some other brands are more expensive and about the same quality. DeWalt is perfect. The batteries have great lifespans and longevity. The drivers like this one are compact and powerful, so they fit in small spaces and you don't have to push as hard. The impact driver especially is amazingly useful for driving screws easily and quickly into any material or project. Don't even try to hand screw into hard treated wood anymore, just grab a DeWalt and power it in, in seconds.

Dewalt impact driver with selectable speed
When you are in the market for a dewalt impact, it can get a little confusing. The best part about this model is the three power levels. It’s a function you never knew you needed. Level one is stepped way down and perfect for assembling all the things that tell you not to use an impact (that I would anyway and break) Level two is for lighter impact driver work into material and three is a monster. This is way faster and more powerful than my dewalt impact driver from 6 years ago.
I use my impact driver weekly or more and just started renovating my second house. Pair this with one of the new, lighter batteries and you have a winning combo.

These aren't made like they used to be
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I own a garage door business. Our main tool is the 20 volt impact. It is the swiss army knife for a door guy, that being said we are constantly buying new impacts because the guys bump the impacts off ladders, scissor lifts etc.. The plastic case breaks 9 out of ten times right around the trigger. I think the first generation of 20 volts were built much stronger and could take a beating. I would like the Dewalt team to take a look at fixing this problem. I have seriously been considering switching to Milwaukee tools.

Good. but not as good as the previous DCF886 model
It's good but... there's a nagging issue that means it's not GREAT!. I am a total DeWalt fan and own many many of their tools for their design, power & balance, however on this occasion I feel this model is a downgrade from the previous model (DCF886) that I owned and loved in a few ways.
This model has too much chuck wobble (the DCF886 was PERFECT - why did you change it DeWalt!?) which is annoying considering how much that part is used. Secondly, I don't find the variable speed any use, the pressure sensitive trigger is enough and doesnt require you to move your hands to control it + I'd rather save the weight.
However this Impact Driver is a robust and essential tool in any consumer's arsenal.

Lots of Power!
This impact driver is great! It has enough power to drive big lags and deck screws with ease. It also worked great when I had to remove rusty deck screws, though some were so old they snapped off. I was also able to use it to drill through metal with ease. This impact driver also worked great to remove smaller hex bolts from a trailer when using impact sockets, it saved me a ton of time over using a traditional wrench. Battery life on the standard 1.5 AH batteries is phenomenal. Get this impact diver, you won't be disappointed!

Great to test smoke detector!
You remember old Black and Decker tolls that last 20 years.. This one does not even come close. You think that buying a tool with a brushless motor will have you trouble free for many years?? Not this one. 3 years and 5 months of basic residential use and it goes in smoke literally. 3 years warranty... Building products to fail just after warranty, good thinking to sell more junk and scrap the planet! Worst tool ever for $/years of use ratio. If Dewalt stand behind their product maybe they will send another one... Made in Mexico i should have passed on this one and go with Milwaukee. Won't be buying Dewalt products anytime soon.

Good driver, could be better
I’m on my third of fourth unit of this model, not because it is poorly made, but because I use them hard and wear them out. I would like to see DeWalt release a new model of this tool with the following changes: I almost never use first gear and by that I basically mean never. I’ve tried it, and it just doesn’t work for me. I’d rather finesse the trigger in second gear to sink my fasteners. Second point; second gear is always the first to wear out, so I run third gear almost all the time. That brings me to the modifications I would like to see: add a few more windings to the motor, make the magnets a little bigger and forget first and second gear.
