What is the difference between a 779 and a 780 model?
I do not own ether one of these saw presently, I am looking to purchase soon. I learned the 779 max cross cut is 14.01" in spite of the Web page description of 16".
The 780 does cut 16". In the spring, Lowes was selling a miter saw for $399 claiming it could cut 16" so I assume it was a 780 but in fact was a 799 that only cuts 14.01"

What type of blade is included with the saw? How many teeth and what is the blade arbor size?
My saw came with a deWalt 32 tooth ripping blade with a 5/8" arbor. I have not used this blade as the bulk of my cutting with this saw is cutting baseboards. I put on it a deWalt 80 tooth blade.

This saw is a beast, strong, heavy and well built
This is a great saw. For the casual DIY enthusiast it may be overkill, but if you find yourself needing to make longer cuts, this saw can but up to 16 inches thanks to the sliding saw. It is well worth the price. There is a newer version but I was more than impressed with this one. I have added the Dewalt Rolling Universal Miter Saw Stand (item 500305922) to make it even better since it is a heavy saw mounting it on the saw stand makes it very easy to move around. I found changing the blade very easy and setting the miter angle is also very easy. The exhaust is very powerful which means less mess if you attach the dust bag or even a shop vac to the exhaust pipe.

Dust collection issue solved!
I liked everything about the saw except that using a dust-collecting bag was not my choice. I’d connected a shop vac to my previous saw – this doesn’t work on the Dewalt; the little rubber “ears” on the dust chute pull together. My “fix” was to cut an appropriate-size hole in the side if a 1-1/2 inch PVC coupling, attach a nipple to connect with my vacuum hose, leaving the top of the coupling open. The airflow is sufficient to draw the sawdust – but not pull the ears together. I secured this to the saw’s power cord with a cable tie and put a small sheet metal screw part-way into the top of the dust chute.

Very Well Built Saw.Definitely Not Disappointed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have had a comparable Ridgid saw for over 15 years for my construction business, Just died on me and decided to try the Dewalt. Frequently install oversize crown molding. This saw has good power with a slight kick when starting saw. Has a lighter and more agile feel than the Ridgid. The presets for angles are well set and it is easier to change and set the bevel angles. Find that the saw is also a little more light weight and very manageable. Just bought the Dewalt portable Miter saw stand. Very light weight and great with 16' pieces of molding. Impressing me everytime I am using it and definitely sure that I made the right decision buying this

Compound miter saw
I've owned Dewalt miter saws for years and have not been disappointed yet. This saw is what I expected, I checked the setup which was spot on with smooth accurate cuts right out of the box.
I added the DWS779 XPS Work Light Upgrade Kit from (https://www.mmtoolparts.com/store/miter-saw-upgrade-kit-dewalt) to make the saw similar to the DWS780 which added the Blade Positioning System for adjustment free cut line indication for better accuracy and visibility.
I chose Dewalt over another top brand because of the stainless steel miter detent plate. I went ahead and bought the 60 tooth blade for trim work since it came with a 32T blade.

Great miter saw!!!!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been searching for a miter saw for some time now. Being a new builder/woodworker, I've been building my collection slowly. I read tons of reviews and decided on this model. Out of the box the saw was true, level, and BIG. I was surprised at the size and heft of the product. There were no adjustments needed. I used it to cut base molding for my stairs. Not the best job, but for a first timer I think I did ok. The angles were absolutely killing me. Needless to say this saw out performed my expectations. I orginally wanted a Rigid saw to go with the rest of my tools, but I'm glad I bough this one. I'd highly recommend it.

Accurate and Repeatable
I bought this saw to replace a smaller miter saw. I needed to be able to cut larger width pieces. Right out of the box the I checked the miter 0 and bevel 0 and both were dead on. No adjustments needed. I have used this for two projects so far the gave the miter, bevel , and slide a good work out swinging both left and right on both scales. I am super happy with how the projects turned out with the angles being tight and clean. I also purchased the 80 tooth Dewalt 12" blade for the fine details on the Treasure Chest. I have a dust collection system in my shop and there was very little to sweep up when I was finished. I am very pleased with every aspect of the saw.

Great Saw
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had looked at this saw several times in the store and read many excellent reviews. When the Black Friday sale included the free stand, I had to have it. As others have said it is more than I need, but available should I ever need it. I've been using various power tools for nearly 50 years and it's great to see this kind of quality and accuracy right out of the box. I have the highest of regard for Dewalt Tool Co. for the response I received when I called with a concern about the included 32 tooth blade. A 60 tooth blade was immediately shipped, no charge. I will be adding the XPS Light Shadow kit to turn it in to a DWS780. Highly recommended.

Item:97 Part:N401778 Description:COVER
Before turning on the saw I checked it for alignment and movement. I noticed the blade would hit something when moved back and forth so I took the kerf plates of and noticed a raised area of the plastic cover under the kerf. I did my internet research and found a couple other instances where customers noted this same problem. I also looked at a store model and it did not have the raised area on this part. I then called Dewalt and their support had no information about this being reported as a problem. The rep took my information and said she would forward it up the chain. I decided I would just let the blade cut the plastic since it couldn't hurt the blade and everything works just fine. I did some test cuts with the supplied blade and a new 80 tooth blade and this saw works like a charm.
