Description

Lite Sand setting compounds are lightweight, sandable, chemically setting powders used to pre-fill joints, embed joint tape and conceal joints, fasteners and trim accessories on gypsum wallboard. They can also be used for interior patching and repair. They are ideal for heavy fills because they are specially formulated to harden with very little shrinkage in a prescribed time frame. This compound is formulated for lower water addition which dries faster, gives a stronger bond, and is creamier consistency. The setting time is about 45 minutes. Can I use this product to skim over cement board as a fireplace surround?

Rated 5 out of 5 by Consistency from Excellent but... Excellent for taping, patching, installing corner beads and skim coating but a quality 3M reusable respirator is ESSENTIAL when mixing the compound. The reusable respirators and dust masks available at hardware stores aren't adequate to protect our health from drywall dust. I also use non powdered vinyl gloves as drywall dust and nitrile gloves as both cause different types of contact dermatitis. I use a shop vac with yellow filtration bags if sanding is required to prevent the toxic drywall dust from settling on me.
