Can I remove the shelves and install a closet rod for hanging clothes?

Doubt it. One of the shelves mount in the middle to act as a support between the 2 side walls

Do you have to install the shelves? Is it possible to build the unit without the shelving inside? I want to store tall garden implements in this unit and the shelves would get in the way.

I wouldn’t. Any moisture would get into it as it’s not sealed tight.

Rated 3 out of 5 by garage organizer from Meets my needs I purchased 3 large cabinets and one smaller wall cabinet. The cabinets are easy to assemble and hang on the wall with the track system. The only issue is the condition of the cabinets, they appeared to be packed well but when I unpacked them and assembled them, every one of the large cabinets had dents in every side panel and one of the doors. I would have returned them however, the unpacking process destroyed the boxes. I decided to live with the dents since I really need them so I could unpack the my tools from the moving boxes (recently moved). Bottom line, I like the cabinets but would not recommended them if you want a pristine garage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jimbo from Great Product! Ordered three of these storage units and dreaded having to assemble them. I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of assembly. The instructions are clear, the cabinets are well designed, and all the parts fit together perfectly. One extra nut and bolt in each size were included--something I've never encountered before! The first took about two and a half hours, but the second and third took only about an hour after practicing on the first, and this was without any power tools. These are quite sturdy and easy to level. Liked these so much, I ordered one more. Strongly recommend these cabinets.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jerry from Nice but not perfect one of two purchased had lower shelf bent up badly but was able to straighten with some effort. The same unit had a bent left door which I also fixed before assembly. It looks ok for a garage. I was surprised when I read the warrantee that they will replace defective parts however you will have to pay for the shipping. So if you accept these in a box that has no damage as I did and they shipped you defective parts you are out shipping for replacements. That is crap! When I have time I will be calling to see if they will ship me a replacement door including shipping.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Bama from Not worth the money! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I caught this on sale with 25% off and it still isn't worth the money. Very flimsy, you can bow the shelves just by slightly pushing down with your hand, there is no support across the back of the shelves. Mine had minor dings and dents even though the box wasn't damaged at all. With the cabinet level and adjusted the doors still didn't align just right or close all the way. Very disappointed, bought two and returning the one I haven't unboxed back for refund. The only reason for the price tag is the finish or look it has and if your willing to sacrifice quality for looks than good luck! I will be buying the all welded one at the king of farm stores.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lisa from A FEW HELPFUL TIPS. I put together two. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like these cabinets. The first one took my dad and I 3.5 hours the second under 1 hour. Here are my tips: label P1, P2, & P3 pieces with tape put an "R" along the edge with the small holes. do the same with the top and bottom piece. P5 the front has a notch for the lock label with "F". Do not tighten the 8 large bolts on the from of the cabinet until the doors are installed and open and close with ease.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Danno from Great addition in my garage! Wish I had bought two while they were on sale at Lowe's on Black Friday! Very easy to assemble. By the way, the lock works in spite of the reviews. The key will only come out after the lock turns into the slot in the shelf so you have to have the slot in the front for it to turn 180 degrees, then the key can be removed. Also, I found a cabinet shelf to which I mounted wheels to be able to move it around. It is not top heavy so you can buy wheels from the company and install them yourself. Just look at the other wheeled cabinets on their website! I did not use very large wheels since it is not going to be moved very often. I'll post pictures later.

Rated 4 out of 5 by asdfjkl from Good Product Bought the cabinet to straighten garage. It looks good and has great features. It did exactly what I purchased it to do. Assembly was not as 'simple' as the instructions implied. The good thing is that I'm fairly handy so I did not have any difficulty. For a novice, care should be taken and plan for it to take a little time. For an expert, knock it out in 30 minutes or less. Nice piece of gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RAFO from Nice Cabinet This is a great cabinet and fairly easy to put together (we put down a tarp on the driveway as you need a large flat surface). Instructions are very good and all pieces were clearly marked as to where they went. Installed and leveled... had to tweak levelers a bit when doors were hung, but no big deal. Final step... install lock. Unfortunately lock key didn’t turn lock even though numbers matched. Key got stuck (gorilla fingers). Called help number and customer service sent out another lock that works fine, no problemo. Only thing that would improve this cabinet is if it included lockable casters for moving it around. Otherwise, a good buy.
