Rated 4 out of 5 by hannonmc from Fun kit... This was the first kit that my son and I put together, even before attending an in-store clinic. I noticed that the nail holes didn't quite line up and it was challenging for him to nail the portholes into the side of the ship. Overall, he really enjoyed building this project. He really liked how the plank slid in and out of the ship. I will say that these kits that you buy are of inferior quality compared to the ones they get in the free in-store clinics!

The only thing I found wrong with the kit was, one of the windows was not drilled for the nail to go through. Quick fix with a drill and we finished it in less than a half hour. Will buy more kits for him.

We did some wood burning, a couple coats of stain and a generous clear gloss coat so it can survive bath time. This is one of the best impulse buys we’ve gotten at Lowe’s, but its Lowe’s so there’s not really such a thing as a bad impulse buy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Curt from Poor quality I purchased 5 of the Pirate Ships and set up a craft hour for my grandchildren. Was a disaster. I found that the holes not drilled properly and the nails very poor quality - had to replace 4 or 5 in each kit. Suggest smooth sided nail - brass picture hanger nails worked much better than kit nail.

Rated 3 out of 5 by way from Pretty good The way the kit is made and with the given instructions, it is very difficult for kids to hammer a nail into the crow's nest without risking damaging the crow's nest and cracking the mast. Consider gluing the crow's nest without the nail. Lowe's quality control could do better. Also, the Lowe's logo on the lower flag sail is cheesy and detracts from the finished product. Your kid can put her/his own sticker or create a sticker and tape over it.
