Is there a celcius format in settings? Is there a companion humidity sensor or is it all in this unit? My present system has a humidity sendor in the duct and a manual dial on it to set humidity. This unit runs 5 foot to the furance/air.

Asked by: JohnNC
Unfortunately the Celsius option only has resolution of 1.0C, not 0.5C as it should have.  For this reason I had mine set to fahrenheit, as 1F has better resolution than 1C.

Is this a 4 wire or 5 wire hook up? I currently have a 4 wire system

Asked by: Frankly54
there are various kinds of 4 wire hookups, depending on what you are doing.  The standard 4W hookup is R (power), W (heat), Y (a/c), G (fan), and letters indicating the wire color, usually.  This is for single stage equipment.  Typically a 5th wire means adding the C (common) wire for the 24V neutral connection of the transformer.  There is no battery with this unit, and since it has a display and wifi, it requires a 24V power supply, and so a C wire is required.  I recommend pulling an additional2, 3, or 4 wire cable to add the one wire and have spares.  If you upgrade to a 2 stage heater, a 2 stage a/c, and add a humidifier, you will then need 8 wires total.  If you need the extra wire then I do not recommend the "add a wire kit"  that is commonly available  - it is a short cut - I recommend adding a wire by pulling an extra wire in, however this is a low cost option if the installation of a cable is too expensive or difficult.

Can I just turn the fan on to circulate air from the cool basement to avoid using my AC?

Asked by: DMCQ
Yes, there are a few modes for fan control. "ON" mode will make it run continuously.  There is also a circulate mode - programmable.

Bosch White Smart Thermostat (Wi-Fi Compatible) is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not great. I have 2 units. Same problems with both. It often takes multiple attempts to connect with the unit via wifi. Also, it often takes several attempts to change from one schedule to another one, eg from Home to Vacation. Frustrating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from FUNDAMENTAL CONTROL PROBLEMS - DO NOT BUY!! I am an Electrical Contractor & Instrumentation Tech that is quite familiar with Hvac thermostats (t-stats) and gas furnaces. I've purchased this model at Lowes. I am returning this model and have purchased another brand. Giving 1 star for this review is generous. Application: Lennox Nat gas multi-stage modulating variable speed furnace - House. Lennox and one of their Premiere contractors have both confirmed this 2-stage t-stat is compatible. This high efficiency furnace was installed new in 2010 and has run with no problems from a simple single stage t-stat. True modulation is not achieved with a single stage t-stat, it seems to work as a 3 stage furnace (approx) with this t-stat, so I believe there are slight efficiency losses by not having a Lennox modulating t-stat. Lennox recommends their t-stat (which all have terrible reviews on their own website) or a 3rd party 2 stage t-stat, such as the BCC100, which should then give a little higher furnace efficiency. Most reviewers are talking about wifi, Alexa, their phone, and not that familiar with the core workings of a furnace or a t-stat. This review discusses more of the core fundamentals of control. I did not test Alexa functions. Fundamental Control Problem: I was not even going to test this - thought for sure the main temperature control would be solid. When the PV (actual room temperature) is at the setpoint (SP) then the modulating furnace is usually on low fire / low speed as it should be, in winter. Every hour or so the furnace ramps up quite a bit for some reason - which should not happen. I did a step change test several times, with PV = SP, at 70F, I enter a new setpoint of 71F. The outside temperature is only about +25F, so very little extra heat and not much time is required to achieve 1F higher. On each test the PV reached either 73, 74, or 75F. Often it was overshooting by 3F to 4F higher. When the t-stat was reading 73F, which is 2F above setpoint, the t-stat was still indicating it was on stage 2 (red #2 circle), meaning it was calling for the furnace to still be on a high fire setting, and the furnace was on high, and the t-stat did not shut off the stage 2 signal for at least 1 minute, which drove up the PV even more. Once the SP is reached the 2nd stage heat signal shut off right away, and the first stage heat signal should shut off after a time delay - possibly 1-2 minutes. There cannot be overshoot of 2F or more - that is completely unacceptable, in any situation for house temperature control - this is not a difficult control application. It was proven that the overshooting is the fault of the t-stat, not the furnace, with at least 3 separate tests. Other Problems: wifi source must be within 25 feet - line of sight, as per Tech Support. I don't know why the distance is so short - the rule of thumb is wifi is good for about 80 ft or so, line of sight. I suspect they have heat problems from the wifi antenna causing temperature reading error of the t-stat, and possibly are shielding the antenna, attempting to draw heat away from the temperature sensor. Originally, the screen was intended to stay on permanently (as stated on the Lowes website), but then they had heat problems due to the screen on all of the time, throwing off the temperature sensor, so it now shuts off after 3 minutes (max). This is why it does not have a motion sensor, like other brands have. When I was programming and documenting settings, I had the screen on for over an hour. This drove the PV up by 3 to 4F above the SP. The above step change tests were done with the screen off and a stronger wifi connected, so the screen temperature problems did not affect my tests. Loss of Wifi signal: A few reviewers have stated that sometimes wifi signal was lost and the t-stat went bezerk, reports of heating or cooling all night long, 82F and 63F PV's !. I have even heard of this with other brands. This is very disturbing, if it is true. At least 2 different brands are saying a wifi source needs to be in the same room as the t-stat, line of sight. I suspect that if an update is in progress, and wifi loses signal, this may be the reason for the t-stat going bezerk - possibly defaulting to heat ON, or cool ON, until the update is finished. I will need to install a 120V receptacle in the hallway with a plug in wifi extender. All t-stats on the market are required to have hardwired controls to furnaces and electric heaters, which is a code requirement of the manufacturing (US and Canada). Wifi should never interrupt the main temperature control - it should only allow reading of current values, and the change of a setpoint from a phone. Clearly there are issues here beyond Bosch, and industry standards are lacking. As per CEC (Canadian Electrical Code), these gas t-stats do not require a CSA approval as they are fed power from either a battery or from the furnace 24VAC class 2 power supply circuit. Gas furnaces are CSA approved, which includes the 24VAC power supply, and therefore the t-stats are exempt from requiring certification. I hope changes are coming, new industry codes, that require remote monitored t-stats to have an ethernet cable, and CSA certification. Wifi should not be allowed - in my opinion. Wifi should never be used for home automation, primary heating, fire alarm, or security, in my opinion. Superior wireless protocols exist that are designed for home automation, far better than wifi. I believe Bosch had very good intentions here, likely provided a very good design specification for their manufacturing contractor. The features of this t-stat are fantastic, and originally I fell in love with it. Obviously something went very wrong b/w the 2 parties. I have worked in engineering, and know that often, custom manufacturing companies don't like intervention from their clients, and want to very much build their products their own way, and then make the client sign off and accept docs at various stages. Sometimes these manufacturers are then taken to court, and the manufacturers often win because they have the client sign offs on various docs, and the courts rule that these docs supersede the original design specifications of the client. Hard lessons here for Bosch with a failed product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Controls My Humidifier I did not need an internet connected thermostat, although I've used that feature a couple times now and it is a handy feature after all. I don't need to control the thermostat by voice commands. I don't need a learning thermostat. But I absolutely want a thermostat that can control my humidifier. This one does that and at a much lower price point than a Nest or EcoBee. So far we're happy with this device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It does what it says it does. Grandson loves it. Picked this up a few weeks ago, on sale, and just got it hooked up this past weekend. My son came over and set up the phone connection for me. The wiring was easy but I needed a hand with the making the phone talk to it. The kid made quick work of that. My grandson says I'll be able to talk to it shortly (like they set my tv up) and that if I don't make good at Christmas he's going to call this thing and freeze me out. Wish I knew how to stop that, or if that could even happen. Best get good gifts as insurance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! Sweet screen and easy operation. This thing looks like a mini Star Trek panel interface. Like I'm about to step into the Holo-deck when I touch it. Super simple to navigate and not too hard to install. I'm more of a software guy than hardware, so the wires were a new trick for me. But the video and instructions made it manageable. Dad came over, saw it on the wall and didn't believe I installed it. Now he's having me hook one up at my folks cottage. I saw that this thing has an Alexa update being pushed before 2018 and that is going to be freaky fun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stat Envy! The neighbors are jealous of my thermostat. We were out with our neighbors for an evening and the mentioned they had forgotten to adjust their thermostat before leaving home. I said, "me too". Then I whipped out my phone at the restaurant and adjusted the my home's temp. My wife said she would use her phone to adjust it on the way home later that night. So the set up and physical instalation was pretty simple. I think it ismeaser to use the phone app for programming than the wall unit. This may be just because Im so used to using the phone and my thumbs for manipulating interactive programs. The menus were easy to follow. My WiFi worked right away, no problems. Because it is new, I like to fiddle with the app and programming when I'm bored.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! Easy to set-up and use with my phone A relative of mine, in the US, just got one of these from a different retail site and was raving about how neat it was. I was in my local Lowe's and saw it at a special price that was better than what he had paid. I photographed it in the store, messaged him, and he confirmed it was the same item. He was a little peeved about the cost thing. But anyway, I set it up with no real troubles. The installation guide included a handy wire management and identifying tool (wire labels) and that helped make the hook up easy. It did take about three attempts to find my Wi-Fi, but once it found it the connection with my phone was a breeze. From where my family usually congregates, we can't normally interact with the thermostat but now with the app on our phones it is easy-peezy. The drawback may be the new "Thermo-Spats" that breakout between the wife and I due to each of us having a controller in our hands.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lemon I was initially impressed by the sleek physical appearance and modern colour display screen. However, my unit had unstable temperature reading and inoperative wifi. Pros: Modern colour display / sleek look The mounting holes left behind after I uninstalled this unit were reusable for the replacement from another manufacturer. Cons: Inaccurate and unstable temperature reading when compared to a trusted thermometer: I used the sensor calibration adjustment to “correct” the reading which was too low. An hour later, the reading was off again (too high) so I adjusted it again. Another hour later, the reading was too low again. Many repeated adjustments did little to stabilize the reading. I left the house for a couple of hours and came back to find the temperature 3 degrees Celsius higher than my set point. Wifi failed to connect: On first setup, I was able to connect the wifi to my router and it was working perfectly. The next morning, I noticed the wifi was disconnected. My smartphone and tablet had no trouble. I tried resetting my router (which is in the same room as the thermostat), resetting the thermostat wifi connection, and factory reset of the thermostat. Nothing worked after multiple repeated attempts. Frustrating user interface: Resetting the wifi required repeatedly rescanning for connections and entering the wifi password. The on-screen touch interface is “a b c d e” instead of “q w e r t y”. If you are accustomed to texting with a “q w e r t y” keyboard, this makes finding letters more difficult. Furthermore, the size of the keys was too small for my fingers and I kept getting incorrect key presses. I admit that this would not be an issue if the wifi would connect properly since you would only have to enter the password once. Poor customer support hours: Monday - Thursday, 8am - 6pm EST. Friday, 8am - 5pm EST. I’m a DIYer who installed this on a weekend. Faced with unstable temperature readings and no wifi connection, the lack of live customer support was the last straw for me. I chose to return the unit and buy another brand. Problem solved.
