probably the best jigsaw on the market
As of 2014, I think you'll find this is the most saw for the dollar spent. It has lots of power and the variable speed control is at the rear of the motor body. The circuitry gives you the feeling of full power without full speed. The trigger which is nice and fat, gives you a soft start, which is very helpful. There is a model above this one which offers a higher amp motor, but I don't think you need it. This unit is plenty powerful. It is also quite smooth running for a jigsaw. I looked a the DeWalt units and did not like all the small parts used for blade retention. This unit uses a "twist lock" looking assembly and it seems quite solid for retaining the blade. Blade changes are easy and the ejection of the blade is positive. One of the biggest weak spots for a jigsaw, is blade rigidity, and while I think all saws exhibit some drift, this one has less than its competitors. If you want a better saw than this one, I think you'll have to buy the Festool. For the fellow looking for a first jigsaw, this will put you in the sweet spot. For the fellow stepping up from an older unit or cheaper one, again, this is an excellent choice. My only complaint is with the carrying case as it has such a poor area for blade storage. I usually replace factory supplied cases with a proper tool box anyway...Good Job Bosch!

Bosch 7-amp T-blade Jig Saw
I have used many brands of jig saws over the last 55 + years and this is the best one yet. As with all jig saws it is important to select the proper blade for the material being cut, especially important if you are cutting curves or thick material. It is a great saw and of the highest quality.

Great saw for heavy scroll work
Bought one of these for doing scroll work on 2x6 and 2x8 lumber. It does a great job, cuts quickly, doesn't get hot and never bogs down.
The variable speed trigger combined with the speed limiter dial worked very well for controlling speed. It makes it very easy to set the speed appropriate for the work being done.
The plastic overshoe keeps the saw from scratching wood, but once in a while would catch on the edge of board when starting out. Once it is sliding it works really well.
The grips feel very good and work very well.
The power is very good. I never had an issue plowing through 2x stock, even when I hit knots in the wood. The blade would heat up very quickly but that is to be expected, and highlights the power of the saw.
The only real nit is the blower doesn't clear sawdust very well. I didn't have the optional vacuum attachment so I can't speak to how much of a difference that would make. But at times I would get a building of sawdust in front of the blade that would make it a little tricky to follow a curving line. And since this saw can cut very quickly you have to be a little careful. I was cutting a lot of fresh cedar so the dust was a little sticky. I will find out how it works on dry wood later.
The vibration level is very low for a saw with this much power. I did at times have a lot of vibration from the wood since the damp cedar would stick a little. I just had to clamp the boards to keep them from bouncing. And I didn't feel much of the vibration in the saw, I could just see and hear the stock bouncing.
Make sure you buy good blades and plenty of them. The saw didn't come with any but I rarely use stock blades anyway, so I hadn't planned on using them. I buy bulk fast cut blades and this saw moves them very well.
I am very glad this was my chosen saw for the task at hand.

Powerful & Reliable
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this saw to replace and older jigsaw I've had for years. I had an upcoming project with lots of angle cuts that I couldn't do on a band saw. The Bosch jigsaw cut through the thick material with ease. With the variable speed you can adjust the speed so you don't leave burn marks on your project. One of its attributes is its reduction of vibration. Trying to follow a line on your cutting surface and the vibration causes the material to shake violently reduces your accuracy and causes you to make mistake on expensive material. This saw is smooth and is excellent at controlling vibrations. If it's within your budget buy this jigsaw!

sturdy
I purchased the 470E, having difficulty comparing this to the 572EL, the top line model costing about $ 100 more. Both have about the same power & weight & cutting features. My 470E came with 1 wood blade, a plastic case, a no mar plastic footplate, which snaps on & an anti splinter insert. The insert was impossible to get on as the instructions were awful. Possibly mine was defective, although there were no broken edges. The insert only works with certain special blades, so this potentially valuable feature is pretty worthless. Changing blades is easy, fitting firmly into metal parts. This feature is better than mid priced DeWalt & Makita saws, which were also evaluated. The blade is set back so it is hard to see for freehand work, especially as chips are flying out in the way. Possibly a light is an advantage. I did not think the blower, which only works at the maximal speed, was satisfactory. So doing free hand cuts is difficult. I use a simple T jig for straight cuts, which works perfectly. There is no blade wandering on any cuts. The case has 2 compartments inside, presumably for accessories, but barely allows room for the jig saw with the 8 foot cord. My old Bosch case was better. This saw has a lot of little problems, but on the job it is powerful and cuts perfectly straight.

Love/Hate
I've used the Bosch jigsaws for 35 years. I do believe they are the best, as I've cut miles of wood, steel and aluminum. I've probably owned 5-6 variations of this model, and have always found them to be fantastic and well worth the money. But...the one I've had for a year or so has to be the worst ever, or maybe I got a "lemon". I've cursed it every time I go to change a blade. This new blade change system ejects perfectly, but when installing a new blade, it will NOT seat properly and will immediately shoot out as I start the saw. I literally takes 5-10 minutes of cursing and forcing the blade to seat. So many times I've wanted to toss it through a window or smash it with a hammer or cut it up in disgust with my oxy/acetylene torch. I hate it, but I'll most likely buy another.

Quality Saw
Easy to use. Tackles the hardest jobs with ease. Slices thru 2 inch material without a hiccup. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

Great saw
Had an old Skil jig saw with a new blade, was cutting so slowly decided I needed a new saw. First cut with the new saw almost cut to far into the work piece. Wow, the speed of the cut really surprized me. Love the quick release blade and the variable speed trigger.
