Really Works.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had to replace a valve in very tight quarters in my laundry/pantry room to an outside faucet. New ball valve was going in existing copper pipe with old valve right next to stud - no way to move pipe. Siding was only inches away. This product was recommend by a friend. DID IT WORK. Put the flame protector to shield stud and outside siding. WORKED LIKE A CHAMP - not a bit of flame got through - no charring of wood and is fully reusable. This is now in my tool box permanently. BUY IT for close quarter jobs - may save the house or at least those scary black burn marks.

Wish I'd found this years ago
I was installing a Vikrell (plastic) tub and shower enclosure and had to do a little final sweating up close to it. I was worried about heat and planning to use the usual wet towels to protect the plastic and studs. I saw this at Lowes and gave it a try. It's great! It protects during even long heat-ups like brass eared elbows. Wood directly behind heat-ups got a yellow look but no charring. Really useful size is thick enough to stay put.

Flammable heat shield!
brand new out of the package, used this in a cavity behind a tub to protect the surroundings while sweating in new supply lines and faucet. This thing gives off acrid smoke, like burning ammonia. Then it got a bit wet when I was drying the lines of residual water before sweating. When I went to actually sweat in the new lines, the wet heat shield actually caught fire! I will be returning this. My fault for getting it wet maybe but thats going to happen all the time. Dangerous product.

Did its job, but expensive for singe use.
I was replacing the cold water supply valve for a toilet and purchased the flame protector cloth to keep the baseboard and wall undamaged from my soldering flame. The orientation of the pipe necessitated my cutting the cloth to fit around the pipe so that the copper was effectively sticking out of a hole in the cloth.
The cloth did a great job keeping the flames off the wall behind it. There was not damage to the paint or baseboard. I don't see myself needing to use this cloth again, or at least not for a very long time, so the purchase price is a bit much for a one time use.
The cloth is designed to be hung from two nails tacked on the wall with the pip running parallel to the face of the cloth, so it didn't match up with my use case, but I was able to easily cut the cloth to make it work.

I used this while soldering copper lines next to wood and foam insulation. I could not believe how well it works.

Just what I needed
I havew been repairing some copper pipes for a boiler in an attic. Trying to solder in this enviorment is diffacult. Using several pads I was able to use a high tempture torch with no worry about fire.

Good purchase
This flame protector works great. I just completed installing a FHW heating system in an old farm house. Lots of sweat joints in tight places where wood has been drying out for 250 years. This product left no chance of heat passing through it. Using MAPP gas up really close over and over. Amazing product!!!

Shocked
I was overwhelmed shocked over the protection this product really does. I had to work in *very tight* areas with wood and combustibles all around. Trust me when I say I had many gallon bottles waiting on anything to fail or happen. But to my complete surprize.. Didn't even get the pipe it was resting on, nor the wall it was less than 1/4" from EVER get hot.. Definitely worth it's cost and usage..
Recommend? YES, very much so....
