is the fireplace screen a close mount to stone of fireplace?
Yes, but it has feet that extend to the back of the screen. I had to cut these off (hacksaw) to allow the screen to stand flush against the stone...easy enough. The screen still stands up because the feet stick out in the front.

I'm not understanding the 12 " thickness. Is this an insert or screen? How wide the door? How tall up to the arch? T.Y.

Sturdy but not black
This fireplace screen was easy to assemble. Took about 5-10 minutes. It is very sturdy and fits fairly close to the brick around the opening. Only complaint is the color is more like antique gray. It's not black at all and therefore doesn't match the black tools that I already had. Disappointed in that because it clearly says black. As long as you know that, the functionality is very good and I would recommend.

Dissappointed in condition
Product arrived scratched up as if someone dragged it on a concrete surface. One of the bars at the top was broken.

Great looking product
Bought another from some other supplier way to big for my fireplace this one fits perfect. Good quality and good looks. I especially like the doors that open instead of moving the whole screen to put wood in the fireplace

Good except condition on delivery
Like another reviewer said the screen arrived with front knobs really scraped up. Instead of pain to return I used a Sharpie to cover up. Apart from that it appears sturdy and will see how long the hinges last.

Disappointed
When we opened the package you could tell it was already returned once before. There were spots where the paint was chipped off and parts where missing. Very disappointed with this product.
