Decent splitter for the money.
Splitter worked great on pine, split some smaller cottonwood. Some poor assembly at the store but not a problem. Only issue was a small leak that developed on the hydraulic cylinder seal. Doubt it was from being overworked since the leak developed while splitting just the pine. Probably wouldn't have returned it but a small leak starting within a few hours doesnt inspire confidence. Maybe just a fluke. Since they dodnt have another one of these I'm going to try the next one up. So we will see how it turns out. (Reviews arent great for it.) If it doesnt work out I'll take it back and try a different brand.

Great log splitter!
This log splitter lives up to its 5-star rating. It has handled knots and twisted pieces with no problem and has split everything I have tried to split. The unit is compact and can be easily towed by my lawn tractor. Great buy!

Very Good Investment !!
Bought this at the end of November after waiting for 6 wks. Pulled it home at a safe speed(15 miles) .filled the engine with oil, checked all connections and levels, cranked it up, and proceeded to split 1 chord of 24" white oak without a hiccup. Now, the end of December and working on my 4th Chord of 24" oak with no problems at all !! I'm very happy with the way it performs and would recommend highy!!
ONE BIG NOTE!! I was on the notification of back in stock list and was never notified it was in. I just got lucky and checked the website and saw they came in and had 1 left. Always check the website........

great machine
I bought this yesterday to take care of some wood I was given. Checked all the hoses and fluid levels. The motor started on the second pull. I stroked the ram and got to work. Did a cord of red oak the first day some of the logs were larger but it powered through. Day two a cord worth of mesquite without a problem. been through 3 tanks of gas but very happy with my purchase. No problems so far, have some pecan to do next weekend, we will see if I change my mind.

Good Machine but needs better factory QC
I’m a “do it yourselfer” so I opted to assemble myself. Wasn’t hard and didn’t take long but found that one of the seals in the cylinder was defective. Since this was stored outside there was also water in the engine (which I was able to take car of). Most people would have returned it at this point but I called the mfg 800 number and they sent me a new set of seals no questions asked. If Lowe’s had done the assembly and tested this would have been caught before I took it home so no fault to Lowe’s. I like that the parts were shipped out so quickly, and things happen so no real fault on the bad seal, just should have been caught before shipping. I did have to buy 3 gallons of hydraulic oil to replace what was lost. I probably could have fought to get that for free but wasn’t up to fighting.
Overall the is a powerhouse of a machine! Look forward to many years of service.
If not for the added expense of the oil I’d still have given 5 stars.

Awesome Splitter!
I purchased the Performance Built 27-Ton 208-cc Horizontal and Vertical Gas Log Splitter with Briggs & Stratton Engine on a Wednesday and I was called on Thursday and informed that the splitter was assembled and ready to pick up. I took my trailer and four wheeler to transport the splitter back home. I wanted to give the assembly of the splitter a once-over before I towed or used it. The assembly was completed correctly.
My first use of this splitter was phenomenal, in both the horizontal and vertical positions. The splitter took everything I threw at it and everything worked as it should have. It is too early to tell as far as longevity but, it's performance is promising. I'm sure going to take care of it as far as the maintenance and hopefully it will serve me well.

Good for the money
After one use it spllits well. Even powers through knots. The store did not complete the assembly correctly. Check the hydraulic lines for tightness. Had a loose fitting that started leaking just a few minutes of running.

Does the job!
(I did have to top off hydraulic fluid after initial cranking) Tried this out for the first time today. I had started it earlier and it crsnked right up, and functioned as expected. I checked for leaks and operation. All was satisfactory. It had been assembled well at the store.
So, to find out if it would fill the bill. Wood was maple, and largest diameter was about 24”. Some knots and forks. Machine did a great job. I had never used a log splitter previously, and I wasn’t disappointed. After 1.1 hour of continuous operation, no leaks and no problems.
