Mr. Heater 540-Degree Tank Top Heater - 45,000 BTU - 750 sq ft is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mr Heater is the MAN! I have a 34 foot by 25 foot Steel building with a 16 foot ceiling.... Set on low... 43 degrees outside... Nice and warm inside! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seems nice I never used it but I installed it long enough to realize it didn't have a piezo electric starter. There is a hole to put a match or lighter though once the propane is flowing. Not only is this a tad dangerous, it's a hassle to do and the lighter has to Always be handy. I do like that it pivots to become directional. It appears to he solid but I returned for a different type. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works Good, Sucks Fuel. I thought this would be a good alternative for my bullet heater but it sucks more fuel an the heat isn't spread out very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent heater with remarkable portability! Looking for a portable propane heater? This is it. Use it for the patio or with a smaller 10 lbs tank when you head camping, to the range, or when working outside. Easy to setup and efficient. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! Almost overkill Heats up garage super fast! I’ll only turn it on high to get it warmed up fast, then even on low it’s almost too warm. Deff good to get the 360 degree warmth.... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good portable heater The gas consumption is a little too high even on the low setting. But it generates a lot of heat. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hot value Brother last one on the Shelf so no box very impressed with the all-around heater this product almost too hot for the garage have to manually light it with a lighter though if the Piezo ignitor is on the bypass which I'm not sure that that's what it is because it was the last not with a box unit I love the 380 Degree heating radius much better than the to head directional emperor that I totally wore out in this unit replaceed

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect the garage I picked this up when the temps were dropping into the negatives. I use it in the garage to keep the chill out since I have rooms above the garage. Works great, easy setup.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heater I know it says outside use only but I use it for my 2 car garage. It takes 15 or so minutes to heat it up on a 20 degree day then I shut it off. The first few times I used it there was an initial odor but now that's gone with use. I would definitely recommend this product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excited... but then not... 2018-04-04. I just picked this up today and couldn't wait to try it, especially since it snowed today. The box was slightly damaged ("accordioned" along the entire height of one corner, and partially on an adjacent one). I opened the box to double check it, and the unit looked undamaged. So off to home it went! Outside ambient temperatures were just a hair above freezing for a high at 34F (1C), but the real feel was more like 19F (-7C). I have a standard 2-stall garage and the dimensions are 20'x23' (460 sq. ft. total). My garage door is insulated and so are the walls. I spent 10 minutes reading the entire manual before beginning the setup, and the instructions are very straightforward and simple. Hook up. A simple two piece setup, you attach the mounting bracket to the propane tank, then you mount the heating unit to the bracket. The mounting bracket was super easy to install, you simply align it back lip on the top of the 20lb propane tank and hand tighten to secure it. The heating unit is secured to the mounting bracket by three small screws (philips). The holes lined up nicely (I had someone hold it perfectly aligned while I tightened the screws) and are in a triangular pattern. The first screw (top) went in without issues and I left it slightly loose. The 2nd screw went in just was well and again I left it slightly loose. The 3rd screw went in equally as easy as the first two. I then proceeded to tighten them in the same order from 1st to 3rd. The first two no issues, but the 3rd wouldn't tighten like the other two. I switched the two bottom screws and same result. Which means the screw hole is stripped on the mounting bracket :( No to let it deter me, I went on to test the unit anyway (the screw was in, it just rotated freely). I hooked up the hose assembly to the tank and checked for leaks in the hose using a 50/50 soap/water solution. No leaks... good start. It lit without issues and immediately I had lots of heat coming off the unit. I had it on it's highest setting (45K BTU's). The test. I opened the garage door about 8" and let it run for 10 minutes on high (45K BTU's). When I came back, the garage heated barely heated up at all 4F (2C). I left it for another 10 minutes and came back, marginal improvement, an additional 2F (1C). So in 20 minutes, my garage heated up a total of 6F (3C)... not impressive... Radiance. This was nothing more than a proximity test. From 4' away from the heating element (still running on high @ 45K BTU's), I was still able to feel the heat slightly on my shirt; however, my back was cold. I deemed this to be the maximum effective heat distance. From 1' away there was plenty of heat, and no chill at all on my back. Using a 3' stepladder, I placed my hand 4 feet above the unit and still felt some heat (more than when I stood 4' away). At 5' above, still some slight heat. At 6' it was no more. So the maximum rise topped off somewhere between 5'-6'. So how did other reviewers get their garage to 70F? They must have had their garage door closed. This is not recommended. While it's a ventless heater, the unit still needs oxygen. But in the name of thorough testing, I went ahead and shut the garage door and took a temperature reading. I went back inside the house for 10 minutes. Upon returning, I took a second reading. The ambient air heated up 9F (5C). I went back inside for another 10 minutes. My third reading improved the ambient temperature another 11F (6C). There was definitely the smell of CO2, so my testing stopped here. I wasn't sure how much oxygen was left in my garage so I immediately opened it up about 8" after turning the unit off. Directing. There is a level that allows you to tilt the heater up to 45 degress, but since it wasn't secured fully to the mounting bracket, I didn't try it with this testing. The manual says to gently pull on the handle, and when I tried, it did not give at all. Mayby I was too gentle, who knows... Cooling. By this time, my unit has been running 40 minutes straight on high. The metal cage was red hot on the concave rungs. The manual states to let it cool for 15 minutes before storing. So I went back into the house for the duration. I missed my timer and got back out 23 minutes later. The cage was cold to the touch. The temperature dropped 20F (11C) during the same time. Storage. The unit doesn't come with a storage case or bag. The box fits well, but it not very portable. I purchased the {MIER 20" Mens Sports Backpack Duffel Small Gym Bag with Shoe Compartment} online that seems to be an excellent fit. It's slightly longer than the 18" of this heater, but that provides just enough wiggle room to store the unit easily. The bag is not well cushioned, but I wrap the heater in a towel before storing. Overall, not a bad little heater. It definitely pumps out the heat, but isn't very effective unless you stand within a 3'-4' radius. It doesn't do much to warm a space if it's well vented, but they don't make sure claims either. In fact, they go out of their way to explicitly state that it's an outdoor heater. It does pretty much what it claims to do. I will definitely be contacting Mr. Heater to see if I can get a replacement tank mounting bracket and some fresh screws, and if not, this unit is going back to Lowe's.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disposable Heater I had a tank top propane heater for years, that just aged and got worn out. I saw this MH540T tank top thinking it would work great in the garage for the winter months. It works well, but is not going to be good for the long term. There is a mesh screen on top and the side, that glow red, during the heating process. These two parts will eventually need changed or replaced. The thing is, you can get the mesh that fits the top, but the circular mesh screen that is on the side, you are not able to purchase. So basically you can use the heater til the side mesh screen gets a hole in it, then you have to throw it away and find another one. If I would have known this before I bought it, I would have never purchased it. I would not recommend this heater at all based off the fact some parts are not available for purchase. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good heater I bought this to heat a shed. Does an excellent job. Lights easily and stays lit. Puts out a ton of heat. Only thing bad is that the tilt head was reefed down so hard that I couldn't adjust it, although to be honest I was more worried about general heat than aiming it. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mr. Heater Tank Top Propane Heater This is outstanding - We have had parties in our garage and outside and this has warmed up a very large area, in 20 degrees temperature. We had to turn it off on occasion because it became to warm - I will purchase another one for our place upnorth.
