The photos for this saw show 2 different models which one is it? 455 Rancher or the 435?

Asked by: RS68
The cc's match the 435 so i assume that it what it is. The picture is just wrong for this model. Why they don't advertise the correct model #, i don't know.

Gas Chainsaw - 16" - 2-Cycle - 40.9 cc is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 205.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Second One--Waste of Money This is the second Husqvarna saw I have had in the past 3 months. First one the 'easy chain' system of tightening, seized up. Took it back, store said they have had tons of problems with this system, I returned it and was offered this 435 model. The earlier model was the 235. This one would not even start!!! When you pull the starting cord, likes to break your arm and makes a rough metal rattling noise. Followed the users manual instructions and doubled and tripled checked everything. Taking this one back and leaving this brand alone. I think Husky's problems have started since they were bought out by Poulan. Poulan is known for cheap junk and now the Husky rep is going to be ruined as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wondering about the power but really like it. Just got it today and cut all day with it. Last year I cut 15+ truck loads with a Pollan Timber bear, 20 pound saw. It was nice to use this feather by comparison. Felt like it was lacking power though. The chain would freeze mid cut a lot. Could be, I'm just used to a more powerful saw though. I think my chain is slightly to tight or the kickback bar is dragging a little. But if I would just let the saw weight do the cutting, no problems. Oh well, can't beat the feel and it started after just a few pulls. I couldn't believe how little gas it used. It's good. But time will tell for the most part.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Alright if you're know how to work machines I'm not gonna lie, I was really excited when my wife came home with this for me. I took it right out of the box and went to start it up but it gave me some trouble. Yes, it's not the easiest to start and yes sometimes if you put it down or turn it off you have to play with the choke or give it a pump to get it going again. Is it impossible and worth the effort though? I cut through two entire trees of white oak that were roughly 20" round while my buddies 20" Poulan Pro had nothing but issues. In my opinion there are better models out there, but this chainsaw will definitely do the job when you need it to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from How to start this saw I too, had a hard time starting this saw at first. I was used to Sears/ Poulan. The choke mechanism is completely different. To start this saw, MAKE SURE YOU LIFT THE RED SWITCH ALL THE WAY UP BEFORE PRIMING, or your primed gas goes somewhere other than the chamber. Also, the instructions say to Press the priming bulb AT LEAST 6 TIMES, but I would suggest if it hasn't been used in a while, press that bulb until it remains 3/4 to completely full. Now pull crank 3 times, switch red switch down to on position, and pull till it starts. When starting it warm the directions are different. LIFT RED SWITCH ALL WAY UP, THEN PRIME, then pull switch down to on position and pull crank. Once again, your chamber will be without gas if you press the prime bulb while the red switch is just in the on position. Best of luck to ya with this rough and ready saw!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Little Saw Bought this saw this weekend to clear my yard of downed landscape trees from the Snowoleen event. I had purchased a 445 but decided that the 435 was about 2 pounds lighter and adequate for my occasional needs. Saw starts right up cold using mfg. directions. Hot starts do not need the priming bulb pumped at all--this is probably the reason that some complain about starting problems. Warm starts, just follow directions. The saw cuts great. It is not a gas sipper. I run through a tank of gas about every 1--1 1/2 hours. The use of chain oil is also not frugal. overall, a great medium size saw. Only time will tell if the Husqvarna brand is worth the premium of $75 more than comparably sized saws of other makes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware Purchase this saw as gift for my wife. We had the local dealer start it up and it had gear oil under it when we did this and we were told they spilled gear oil on it when filling it. got the saw home and it sat for a month before we had a chance to use it and I had placed it on a paper sack to keep the residual spill from getting on anything but to my surprise the chain oil never stopped leaking. So I took a brand new saw back to the dealer and they would not replace it and said they would have a tech look at it. Brand new saw and now we have to wait another two weeks?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Dissapointed I bought this Husky 435 to replace a Poulan Pro I'd had since 2006 that never gave me any troubles before it finally wore out. I spent the extra money on this Husky thinking that it would be a nice upgrade. Boy was I wrong. I just returned it to Lowe's today. I made a grand total of 2 cuts with it. Maybe I just got a lemon, but it was very, very hard to start. It would sputter out after I'd finally get it running after nearly tearing my arm out pulling on that starter cord. During the 2nd cut I noticed what looked like smoke coming from the bar. Shut it off, let it cool down a bit, and noticed the chain was almost dry as a bone. It wasn't dispensing enough oil at all. That was it for me, and I boxed it up and returned it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed I have been through 2 bars, 3 chains. It has always ran great, but the oiler is junk. I found out from a parts schematic that it did not have all the parts. It was missing the oil tank breather hole, screen, and duckbill check. I bought these parts along with the other oiler parts, drilled the hole and the only oil that comes out is when it's not running. Instripped it down the other day and the carrier bushing was toast. I went to Husqvarna hoping for something good. No luck. So I just went and bought a name brand competitor

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Handy product but not professional grade. Debated to get this chain saw or the Stihl. Bought this to help clean debris from storm damage, volunteer work, etc. Initially it started up right away, just as the instructions state. Cut right through three small trees in no time at all. Then on my second use, it took a little bit longer to start. Once it sat for awhile, restarting was harder every time. After two additional trees, the blades are already in need of sharpening-not something I would have thought so quickly. Got stuck twice and it didn't bend the chains or blade at all. For the price and chain size though, I don't feel I did too bad. Will see how it does once it's resharpened.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Around Our Property My wife surprised me with this chainsaw as a gift. I have had it for a few months now. She experienced me struggling with another brand I had purchased for a little less money than the Husqvarna in the same class. What a difference! It is worth paying a little more. I am very pleased with my wife's selection. I won't settle for less again. I look forward to using this chainsaw when needed. Cuts very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a lot of power and works awesome... only PROBLEM... THE bar oil will begin to leak if you leave it full during storage ... overnight or within the week... you will need to put a tampon down or drain the oil... which is a pain... but other than that... nice RPM's through some tough wood and the chain does not wear out like the polan or the motor go out or weaken after a few runs... also the chain stays in place... through a lot of work... just the one problem with the oil... had to take mine back and they where outta stock and had to go to HD and buy an echo... but will consider buying another

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little saw I bought this saw from lowes last weekend because i needed to clean up from ice storm and my 6 year old stihl would not start. I read the reviews beforehand but bought it anyway. It started up right out of the box. I read the manual first since this is my first experience with husqvarna saws. I think all the negative reviews is from people not reading the manual first. READ the manual first and follow. Some saws may have issues but so does alot of things you buy from big box stores. Recommend using the premixed, can gas since it contains no ethanol which can destroy an engine. I am very pleased with this saw.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's not that bad.... I've owned my 535 since the fall of 2011. I use the saw 2 - 3 times each fall for fire wood. I don't have problems with starting however it does take some effort and one must follow the starting procedure. For me, It usually takes 3-4 pulls to get it going. I only depress the primer bulb three or four times and it fires right up. I haven't even changed the spark plug yet. I make sure I use fresh fuel each year and keep the saw maintained and clean after each season. It's not the most powerful saw but it's only designed for occasional home use. DAN

Rated 3 out of 5 by from good chain saw After a lightning struck a tree in my back yard which felled on my home damaging gutter line. i went to lowes to buy me a chain saw, i decided on poulan 16" bought home and started worked fine then stopped next 2hours i kept trying to start it again. Went back and got this baby hasqvarna same 16 in and fired it up. In less then 2 hours went through 30 feet long tree without any problem. after couple of weeks i started it again and no problem. i love it so far except the chain gets loose after few uses but can be adjusted. I wish it could be littlebit lesspriced other than that every thing is fine. and dont forget to greas the bar which goes in small hole in front of bar. maintaining is very important! !!!!!!!!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The negative reviews are accurate I have always been a fan of Husqvarna products. After reading the reviews for this model of chainsaw on Lowes and Amazon, I thought the individuals who rated this saw were just "chainsaw illiterate" so I bought it anyway. Wrong.. My chainsaw had idle problems from the first tank of gas. It would quit running in the middle of a cut. I have filled the gas tank 4 times since I bought it about a month ago, and tonight I couldn't even get it to start. I followed the same starting procedures I have used each time (and what Husqvarna recommends) and I am certain it was not an issue with it being flooded. Husqvarna definitely is not the quality it used to be. I would recommend buying either a Stihl, or a used older Husqvarna model. The newer ones sacrifice quality that the brand used to carry. Very sad for a one time quality brand...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with my first chainsaw After moving in to my first house that is on a 1/2 acre lot with plenty of trees, my brother had already bought a craftsman 20" blade chainsaw, so I went with this one. Growing up our dad always had a big saw and a smaller one, so since we live next to each other we share them. My dad always swore by Echo but I wanted to try the Husquvarna. And its been a dream! At first though had the same problem as all the other 2 cycle moters I had it was bogging out so took it to local repair shop, Im new to all this and they explained to me about gas gets stale after a month or so!!! Now I use fuel stabilizer and it runs an starts like a champ no matter how long it sits! Plus it feels more poweriful than my brothers 46cc craftsman.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hard to start. Strange controls This saw is OK, but not great. I have an older Husq 142 that I love, it starts easier and has a lot more power. I might turn this one in and buy a Rancher because it is really hard to start and seems weak. The combination On/Off/Choke button is confusing. I would prefer separate buttons for On/Off and Choke. The gas primer is a good add on. Overall, the Husqs I have owned are great saws but not the best starters. Also you can't get your foot in the handle to hold it down while you pull and pull and pull. If the handle opening was just a little bigger that would be nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so great OK, I have almost no experience with a chain saw. 1st, let me say, regarding the starting issue, follow the starting instructions. I did so and have had zero issue with starting. Follow all instructions but among other things you have to pull the chord slowly the first time till it puffs, it is then engaged and you can pull quicly, as you normally would and it will start. Due, to my lack of experience and eagerness to get started I forgot to tighten down the chain and it came undone during use. In spight of this I cleaned it up and tightened down etc and went right back to work and have taken down 5 trees and cut through most. I will try to update this rvw as true test is if it lasts but so far this is excellent buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from one small complaint: Nowhere on this saw, nor in the owner's manual, which is for several different models, does it tell you that it is in fact, a 16" saw! The first time I went to buy a replacement chain I bought an H30 chain, which was what was called for. Unfortunately, H30's come in different lengths. I thought I needed an 18, it turns out I needed a 16. In order to determine that I had to go online to Lowes and run down through the different engine sizes until I found one that matched mine! Every other saw I have ever bought emblazoned the size prominently on the case - Why doesn't Husqvarna ? Trying to keep it a secret, I guess ???!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I bought this chainsaw I bought a homelite chainsaw first, and then read the reviews on it before I used it. I took it back to Home Depot after reading the reviews on this Husqvarna saw. I had to cut down trees from our last snow storm, and ran the saw all day. I probably have about 10 pickup loads stacked up. This saw is the best saw I have ever owned. It started easy and didn't skip a beat. From start to finish it cranked easy and ran great. The chain cut thru trees like the were butter, and never got dull.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Glad we bought it! We had some downed trees from a microburst and some of the trees were as large as 18" in diameter. This little machine had no problems cutting these big guys. As far as it goes with getting it started....NOT A PROBLEM! This machine is light weight so this feature aided in lessening fatique. We cut for 5 hours straight. Looking forward to more cutting opportunities!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looked Like It Would Cut Great If It Started... Using fresh gas and Husqvarna oil the Model 435 I bought fired for a second on the 1st pull. Then nothing. Took the spark plug out - no spark. Exchanged it for another. Still no spark - and no start. Research shows there's a known problem with ignition modules with this model. My nephew swears by Husqvarna in his firewood business but maybe that's the difference between consumer and pro model chainsaws. Not a good 1st impression....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Saw After reading many of the reviews, I was unsure about this saw. Then I noticed that most of the negative reviews recommend buying a Stihl which I thought was interesting. Anyway, I took a chance and bought one. It starts quickly, but you have to follow the simple instructions. Love the saw and the fact that it is light weight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 435 vs other saws First Im not an arborist nor logger, nor diehard this brand or that brand fan etc. but here is my review of this saw compared to the others I've used. I use a saw a couple times a year. I can leave a saw in the garage for 7 months untouched then all of a sudden its game time for a weekend or two. Nothing worse than pulling those saw(s) out of storage and fighting to get them to start. I find that with Stihl they are hard to start after they have set for months however once they run, good lord do they run. I do like the primer bulb on the Husqvarna for this reason though. I have a 23yr old 026 pro and the quality and feel is beyond amazing, but its temperamental. If I had to cut a mountain of trees down I would take a pro Stihl any day but I haven't ran pro husky's... I have used several homelite, mucollough, poulan, etc, all unbalanced, harsh, noisy and poor build quality, sigh, really don't waste your money. The 435 Husqvarna is very balanced out of the box (16inch bar) and cuts nice and smooth, but its no pro saw! This Husqvarna is a very nice home owner saw. I have done some limbing/bucking with the 435 and its very good for that. Around the house it's the go to... fairly quiet, light and easy to handle, however when its "game time" look to a slightly stouter model. I would not take it to the mountain and expect to cut down 14 inch Alder all day. This saw is for lighter task (mild storm clearing, pruning, camping, light firewood cutting, etc). If your looking for an all around 2cord/yr saw, then go for a "rancher/farmer" series or a pro saw. Starting is rougher than I would like for a brand new saw, most likely because of CARB compliance. It takes a few pulls even when warm to get it to light and really it should take one (probably running too lean). I think the saw is better suited for a 14 inch bar rather than 16 but I like my saws to stay up in the power band. This is a great homeowner saw and I'm very stoked to have it. I'm very glad I have a pro saw for bigger jobs though(thanks Dad). This "feels/runs" like a good chainsaw... not great, not junk, but good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good all around saw. This is a good all around saw with some cool features. The self adjusting chain tension is nice. If you read the quick start guide the saw will fire right up and you can go to work. I was expecting the saw to have a little more power but with that said it has done every thing I have wanted it to do. I think a good quality chain will take care of that problem. Oh and don't forget the cool color!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice saw when you get one that starts Set may saw up as per instructions, filled it with gas - wouldn't start. Thought it might have flooded so took spark plug out and dried out cylinder - wouldn't start. Read the reviews and followed the recommendations for easy starting - wouldn't start. Checked the plug - no spark. Wife said I must be doing something wrong. Returned it to Lowes anyway who replaced it no questions asked - well done Lowes. Replacement started first time. Wife still not impressed. Nice saw if you get one that works. Powerful and not too heavy or noisy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great little saw - but hard starting when warm We bought this saw at Lowes following a major storm which took down some trees. After running for about an hour, it wouldn't start - even after 50 pulls. Letting it rest overnight (in case it was flooded# didn't make a difference. We exchanged it at Lowes for another one, but it had the same issue after running for a while #even with the expensive Husqvarna fuel in a can). We called the support number and they suggested bringing it to a local dealer. The local dealer finally got it running and adjusted it. When it was running, it cut through trees and limbs like butter. We've always had good luck with Husqvarna equipment, so maybe we just got a bad batch. Haven't tried running it since we finished clearing the trees, but time will tell. Make sure you buy bar oil. While it comes with oil for the fuel mix, there is no bar oil in the box and you'll need a quart or two.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good saw This saw is a great buy. It was alittle cold starting, but once I got it running, its a beast. haven't done any real cutting with it yet, but CONTRARY to the many many reviews that are on this site, the saw is easy to start, ONLY IF YOU FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. I had a hard time because I tried to start it like a Stihl, HUSQY IS DIFFERENT!!!! Great saw, buy it, its worth the money and more!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Purchase Ever Husqvarna has a very good reputation and I expected this chain saw to reflect that. I was surprised to open the package and find that the saw had obviously been used, apparently returned to the store, repackaged and replaced on the shelf in what appeared to be a new box. Despite the obvious "wear and tear", I made a big mistake and decided to use it anyway. I found that after fueling it and adding bar oil, the starter rope jammed on the second pull and would not recoil. Needless to say, I was aggravated. I replaced the saw in it's box and returned it to Lowes for a refund. I've decided to replace my old Stihl chainsaw with another Stihl saw from a small locally owned hardware store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Went looking for a Poulan.... Went to Lowes looking for a Poulan 3516 which rated very well online. They had one but it was the only one and they could not find the paperwork for it. Well I knew that the Husky's were rated the best but I didn't want to pay that much until I lifted it. Specs say it weighs 9 lbs and the Poulan weighs 21 lbs, that sold me. Got it home, started just like the instructions said, Hot Knife Through Butter . Nice unit !
