Gas Chain Saw - 2-Cycle Engine - 42 cc - 18" is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 224.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from not what i was expecting bought this product for the fact that I had had another poulan pro chainsaw a long time ago that due to misuse didn't work well . really didn't have any real problems out of it the first 3 or so days that I used it.. but I fell a tree in my back yard and began to get hard to start with the starting and stopping between taking brush to the street.. then it happened.. pulled the chord out of the starter spindle. Upon taking the face off I soon seen that the plastic hole that it goes through to lock on as you pull had ripped right through.. not a very sturdy design.. the saw when working works well.. seems like a few ideas for quality got left out for profit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Value for the Price Use this chainsaw for trim work On limbs & medium sized tree cutting and does an acceptable job. This the 2nd Poulan Pro 18" I have owned. My only problem, right out of the box is the carburator & throttle idle speeds both need adjusting or you can keep the saw running. I'm familiar with the adjustments so it's just annoying to say the least! However, for someone who isn't familiar with the adjustment procedure & doesn't have the carburator tool it has to be very frustrating! Can't understand why Poulan doesn't fix that problem as it's routinely pointed out with new purchases. Other than that, not a bad saw for the money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from broke second time taking it out of the case Second time using the darn thing when starting it up the pull cord comes right out of it. Ive broken pull cords in the past and had to replace them on weed whackers and lawn mowers before so I decided to try and replace it. When I took it apart to look at it I saw that the pull cord was connected to a piece of plastic that broke on the inside. Of all the parts on a small engine to make out of plastic I think the part your going to be yanking on should be made of metal. This was my first Poulan product and I have to say I’m extremely disappointed in the quality of its manufacture. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great! I recently had a few trees fall into my yard due to Hurricane Irma and had to break down and buy a saw. When I was looking must saws were out of stock and this one had both good and bad reviews but i decided to go with it for the price. It works great when in action. The only issue i can think of is the effort you go through to start the motor. Took about 20 pulls the first time out and now about 7-10 after that. Other than that it is a work horse. I cut up 2 big pine trees in about 20-30 minutes without any problems.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pull starter issues!! I purchased the PR4218 to do some light tree work around my property. On my first pull of the rope to start the saw the rope came out of the starter pulley. Returned the saw to the store and exchanged it for a new one. The new saw worked fine for awhile, used it twice over a 30 day period. Went to use it a couple month later and on the first pull the rope came out just like the first saw. Opened up the casing to reinstall the rope and noticed the cheap plastic starter pulley had ripped completely through so I could not repair the saw. I am now stuck with having to spend my money and time to repair an issue with this product in which the company is very aware of, but still keeps the product on the shelve based on the reviews I have read.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just one problem after another I bought this about three months ago, but did not start it for a month as I was clearing the rest of the land. When it came time to start, it was like pulling teeth. Took me five minutes just to get it running. Followed their directions to the letter. Finally got it started and cut a couple of branches and the chain came off. I put it all back together and finished the job. Second time trying to start it and the same. Would not start. Then the pull string came off. I opened it up to put it back on and it is attached to a cheap piece of plastic and the string ripped right through it. Very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Money down the drain I swore by my 15 year old Poulan wild thing. So when my son in law was wanting his own, I purchased 2 18 " Poulan pros at Christmas time. 1 for him and 1 for me to replace my old 1. He used it to take down 3 medium size trees and fought running issues every step of the way. Became so frustrated he threw it in the garbage. Have used mine twice in 8 months and have same issue as everyone talks about. Hard start , can't keep running between cuts, dies after several cuts and can't restart without cool down. My old saw was great, but the new ones are junk. Bye, Bye Poulan

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Recoil starter is worthless I bought this saw and used it for a few hours last winter to buck up some brush from storms we had. Then, it went into storage until yesterday, when I took it out to cut down a bruiser Chinese juniper. The saw started fine on the first pull, and I got one cut in before setting it down to idle while I moved a piece of debris. Second pull, the starter cord came out in my hand. I opened up the saw, and realized it had pulled right through the plastic retaining wheel. What a useless piece of garbage. This saw has been stored in a dry basement, in its case for a few months, and I've probably pulled that starter a dozen times...Now, I've got a mess of debris in the front yard that I can't do anything with until I get a new wheel. Cheaply made junk, but I guess you get what you pay for...
