Exterior Stain for Deck and Siding is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 171.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I re-finished a deck that was dark grey and black from mold, dirt and neglect. I scrubbed it clean so it looked like wood again and applied Cabots Australian Timber Oil Jarrah Brown to the floor, seats and top plate on rail, I painted the rail slats to match house color. This was in 2011 yikes today I have started scrubbing the deck and will re- apply the same stain again, it probably should have been done a bit sooner but it has been 7 yrs. and this deck was not in great shape to begin with but I really think ATO saved my deck.. The photo is of it being washed and how it looked after over 7 yrs of Iowa weather. It will look new when I'm done again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stained the deck Did all the required prep and used a non-air commercial sprayer to apply. Went on smoothly and dried completely in 48 hours.Over sprayed many plants. Rinsed off what I could and only had a few leaves, no plants, that died. Sprayed steel anti-slip grid and dried in 12 hours. Sprayed the anodized aluminum rails to preserve the color and after 4 weeks they are still tacky. The wood has a slight orange tint, but the wood grain shows excellently. I asked for clear and was sold the #9400 Australian timber oil (natural). I'd purchase again and recommend to anyone, except for the anodized aluminum.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing I've used Cabot Australian Timber Oil #9458 stain on my deck starting in 2008. Super durability and very satisfied. After 8 years it needed staining again. I was forced to use the same product but different chemical make up. (#19548) In 2017 I had it redone again because I had replaced some boards. Enter 2019 and it needs to be stained again! I did the required steps in prepping it every time it has been done. Not very durable! And a very disappointing product. I will offer a word of advice to others, Spraying or rolling may be quick but brushing is the best way to apply it to a deck surface especially if you have gaps between your boards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to apply and looks great I used the Honey Teak color of this stain on a pergola I built behind my New Orleans home.  The lumber is simple pressure treated pine which I sanded with 120 grit sandpaper before I applied the stain.  This is the first time I ever used any kind of stain so I used a lambswool applicator for best results.  I was careful to wipe it repeatedly with the applicator to even the application out and take up any excess.  I found it took about three days before the stain was fully cured and no longer tacky.  I couldn't be happier with the results.  I can't imagine why anyone uses cedar or other premium price wood when this stain makes pine look so good !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rich, Deep Color I am very happy I used the Australian Timber Oil, Honey Teak color, for my new deck. At first the color seemed darker than I expected, but now that it's done, I really like it. It has a rich, deep, burnished, and expensive look and also a nice sheen. My deck is 17x19 and 2nd floor, so I had railing, stairs, and underneath to do also, and I used exactly 5 gallons. I expected to use 2 gallons based on the stated 400-600 square foot coverage, so I guess my wood really soaked it up. I waited 5 months after building to apply it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NEW FORMULA - AVOID AT ALL COSTS I've been purchasing Australian Timber Oil (Natural) for my IPE hardwood deck for a # of yrs. now. Loved IT!! I live in Canada where harsh winters can play havoc on a deck. When applied, the product would last very well for more than 2 years before requiring another coat. Now they've changed the formula of the product and it is completely ineffective. Would not recommend this to ANYONE with hardwood. Suggest Messmers - products are outstanding and formula remains unchanged. After putting Australian Timber Oil on a test patch this year, it lasted less than one week in the full sun before fading significantly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor results I sanded my pressure treated deck down to remove all prior stain/water repellant product. Power washed it to remove the grit and dust. Let the wood dry for 3 days and then applied Jarrah Brown Australian Timber Oil as recommended. While wet it looked fine but after drying it was blotchy and after going through a winter it is dull. It does repel water nicely. I am extremely disappointed after going to all the time and trouble of sanding the deck to have it turn out like this. I would not recommend this product. Any suggestions on how to fix the blotchy appearance would be greatly appreciated.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Must Apply This Properly Or It Looks Terrible I applied this to a pine deck that had no previous protection and was installed 3 years ago.  After cleaning the deck with a wood cleaner (and letting it dry 3 days) I applied Cabot Australian Timber Oil with a roller.  The finish looks terrible with lap marks galore.  I wish the directions would warn against the use of a roller (as the Cabot help line did).  Now my only option is to let it wear off over time and endure the terrible look, or use a stripper.  Stripping takes a lot of effort (using the recommended Cabot product) but I don't know if I can bear to look at this every day.
