DeWalt(R) Door Lock Installation Kit - M3 Steel is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 98.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from DeWalt bi-metal door lock installation kit After reading several other comments before purchasing, I did this: First of all, I ran a 1/2-20 tap back and forth with my fingers in the threads of both hole saws. It removed some paint over spray. then I put a small dab of grease (wheel bearing) on the mandril threads. I then sprayed both inside and outside of the hole saws with silicone spray. AS DIRECTED, drill the 1" hole first, then switch to the 2 1/8" hole next. I pulled both hole saws out 1/2 way thru to remove the build up of wood/metal inside of the round saw. then re-sprayed with silicone and finished the hole. Use some finesse while drilling. This tool does a terrific job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential tool for anyone needing a new knob The doors in my house all either had missing hardware, mis-matched knobs (gold on one side, silver on the other),or no knobs at all. I ordered 9 brand new, antique looking knobs to go with the old doors... and found the holes in the doors were nowhere near big enough for modern knob hardware. I tried to use a holesaw to cut one, but it was a losing battle of sliding saw and gouged door. I picked up this unit, set the holes to the size needed, and had all nine doors cut and ready for knobs in less than 2 hours. Very, VERY slick. Worth the money even if I never ever use it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New lock-set, old door... We were remodeling our home office and that included a new handle for the door to the garage. (A solid core door, fire rated) But the existing set was a smaller hole than the new standard lock-set. But by using this Dewalt kit and saws I was able to align the existing bolt with the fixture and drill the new size hole for the late model lock-set. No filling the existing hole, just let the Dewalt guide the hole saw for a perfect fit. Made a nightmare into a sweet dream indeed. I considered another kit, but could see where the Dewalt was worth the little extra it cost. ($5 difference) I buy tools based on there suitability for the job at hand. And this worked better than I had hoped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great For Re-Drilling Metal Insulated Entry Door I decided to go with the Dewalt Door Lock Installation Kit, rather than the cheaper Irwin model, based on slightly better reviews. I do not regret that decision. First, the Dewalt kit is more heavy duty than the Irwin model. I liked the fact that it was clamped tight to the door, rather than screwed into the door, giving more stability while drilling. I only had to re-drill the deadbolt hole, as that was the only one that was smaller than the rest. After adjusting the backset to the correct length, and tightening down the clamp, the drilling went smooth. I set my drill to the highest speed, and kept a small amount of pressure, and the hole was widened within 10 seconds per side. A small amount of the plastic guide was shaved off, but not bad. There was little, to no movement of the plastic guide. The new deadbolt lined up perfectly, with minimal play. As others have stated, there are no instructions on how to separate the saw from the mandrel. Just remove the screw, holding the guide bit in the mandrel, stick a thin screwdriver through the slots of the hole saw, and use a wrench or channel locks to unthread the saw from the mandrel. To make things easier, I sprayed the threads of the mandrel with lubricant, before tightening the hole saw onto it. I can't comment on how well the guide, and saw hold up after multiple uses, but it worked great for my one time use. The saw still looks to be in perfect condition, and the plastic guide is just missing minimal plastic, inside the guide hole. I am satisfied with how it cut through my metal insulated entry door.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Spend the extra $$ I initially bought the irwin hole saw kit that was a couple bucks less. Needless to say it didn't hold up on the first try. I returned that and exchanged for this one...well worth the extra $5 - especially if you are enlarging a hole. For a new hole in a new door maybe the irwin will work. But, the clamping action on this model kept it in place and it worked for 3 enlarging 3 deadbolt holes. If you are drilling into metal and have more than a couple doors to do, be sure to buy an extra hole saw bit. My only reason to downgrade was that the saw got stuck on the arbor to tightly that I couldnt unscrew it, thus resulting in another trip to the store for the 1" saw. Performance-wise, 5 stars. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great purchase for ease of use. We live in an older house with original 1940's vintage doors, most of which were not cut completely out for modern door knobs. Since there is no material in the middle on the existing holes, a hole saw by itself will not work. With this jig, I can line up the cuts and put newer knobs in with ease. My complaint is with the arbor for the hole saws. For a couple extra dollars the easy change type arbor could be included. Other than that, it is a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DeWalt Door Lockset Boring Fixture Good design and easy to use. Made boring a door for a lock-set simple, accurate and quick, or should have. The fixture I bought had the wrong size mandrel hole and thread on the larger hole saw. I had to borrow a mandrel with the proper sized hole and thread to finish the job. I got lucky. Apparently there was a mix up during packing at the factory and the hole saws packaged were for different mandrels. Took the fixture back to Lowes the next day and exchanged it for a new one with a matched set of hole saws no problem. I looked at every one on the shelf and all of them were correct. I just got the fluke. Lowes was great. The associate was apologetic and exchanged the item without question. I love Lowes.
