Variable Speed Hammer Drill - 7 A - 1/2'' is rated 2.6 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad, but not for me... Purchased this as a replacement to an old Black & Decker that was ripped off. Sadly to say the old black & decker had more power, better torque. I use it as not only a hammer drill, but a regular drill implace of having two different drills on the truck. Returned it for the porter cable, and am very happy with the exchange. If you do light to medium duty drilling or hamer drilling this tool is ok. If you also use the drill to drive speedbor bits for running electrical or plumbing get something with more torque.... I love Bosch tools, but this one just wasn't up to the task...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My first disappointment with Bosch I am contractor and almost all of my tools are Bosch. I was on a job site and my hammer drill stopped working. I needed a replacement quickly and this drill was handy and on sale. It worked well to drill 5/16 holes for tapcons. As soon as I tried to use it to drill holes to set 1/2" anchor bolts the poor quality of the drill was apparent. The whole too vibrated badly while drilling and after setting only a dozen lags the entire chuck assembly vibrated wildly even when I wasn't drilling. I can't even comment about the performance of the drill without the hammer function because it didn't last one day on the job site.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed after the 3rd drilled hole I bought this hammer drill to replace a Black & Decker (on sale for $35 so what the heck?) that lasted 3 years. I’m a tried and true DeWalt man but I had heard so much about how good Bosch's quality was and that it was superior in many ways to DeWalt so I decided to try it out. I had a small job of drilling 4 holes for Tapcon screws in poured concrete. Once I started it didn’t seem to hammer very hard so each hole took oddly long, then the housing got extremely hot, and finally the chuck locked on the bit. I used the included key and the teeth broke off of the chuck so that means the key had better build quality than the drill. I returned it with no problems and picked up a DeWalt DWD520 like I should have in the first place and finished the job no sweat. I’m never touching Bosch again!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Toy If you read reviews about this drill on Lowe's and other sites, you'll quickly find that Bosch has a trigger problem. I used to think Bosch was a quality tool but I fear they may have lowered their standards in order to compete with some of the lower quality tools on the market - in doing so, they created a lower quality tool. This hammer drill may be fine for a homeowner using it once/twice a year and drilling a 3/16" hole in a mortar joint but that is about it. The trigger failed within the first few days of use. I was told to take the drill to an authorized Bosch dealer. The drill was repaired at no cost and then the trigger (assume it is the trigger) failed within a day or 2 after being repaired. At this point I am asking for a refund as I do not think it will last after being repaired a second time. I will probably purchase a Milwaukee.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from First and last Bosch tool I will ever buy There are two major problems with this drill. The first is the chuck. It loosens repeatedly after a few minutes of use. It doesn't make any difference the size of the bit. The second is the hand grip. It is a real pain to adjust from one grip position to another. This drill takes more time to correct the problems than time on task. I have suffered through this drill for the past year and it goes in the trash tomorrow.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked well until it failed prematurely I had this hammer drill for several years and have used it only occasionally -- on average once every few months. When it was working, it worked well, and the hammer mode made short work of drilling through masonry. One thing I did not like is that the chuck key did not fit well. I had to make sure I pressed it in with a lot force to keep it in contact with the teeth of the chuck. It slipped off pretty easily when I was using it, though it never damaged the chuck or key. I thought about grinding the spindle of the key down to try to make it fit better. "Luckily", I never had to do that, because the drill failed today. I was using it to drill through a concrete block. Not abusing it, just using it as intended. It just stopped. I played around with the forward/reverse switch and trigger for a while then it started up again, but only for a minute until it failed again, this time permanently. The drill still looks almost brand new, because, like I said, I didn't use it that much. Disappointing. I think I will be buying a different brand to replace it. even though I have have good service from the 2 other Bosch power tools that I have had for many years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gone through two drills so far I thought this drill would as durable as I remember "Bosch" used to be but sadly not. Just drilling into concrete slab to put in Tapcon screws, the drill quit after 10 screws the first time around. Went to the store to exchange for another drill which quit after about 17 screws. I really can not believe how poorly this drill has been manufactured and trying to be cheap with the made in china label on it which I found out. Very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A step up! I am no professional, I just grew tired of charging, recharging, and finding drained batteries for my cordless drills. They also lack the power Bosch hardwired drill wields with ease. The cord is long enough for bench projects, but if you need an extension cord, you're still much better off investing in this drill that will outperform any drill in its class, and certainly make battery operated drills subject to only the lowest of tasks.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Défectueux J'ai acheter ce produite en février...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dead in 2 years Hammering action is just enough for it to work in your residential application. Used 2 years, approximately once every 3 month. So total may be around 30 concrete holes, and 30 wood holes, and mixing 10 bags of thinset. Pretty terrible durability if I say so myself. FYI - The trigger broken, and in Canada you must pay US plus international shipping. $60+ Easy fix, just almost the price of the drill when on sale

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not what I was expecting The inexperienced DIYer needs to read this.... I bought this product hoping to use it to break up cement. What I didn't know was a hammer drill and rotart hammer are different tools. This is a very good hammer drill and I intend to keep it as it is light and easy-to-use. It just wasn't the tool I was expecting. Lowe's will see me again so I can get the right tool.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed after 15 months Bought this product after having a few Dewalts not live up to their name. It worked great for the first 15 months of occasional usage, but now will only work in reverse. The standard warranty ran out at 12 months, I should have bought the extended warranty, but better than that: Why can't companies make reliable products? I would not buy this item again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hammer Drill for the DIYer I had bought this drill for my father. And I had some projects that I needed a hammer drill so I went out and bought myself one. It works well. I drilled six 3/8" holes with ease. It did get warm with the last couple, but it seemed to be okay when I used it as a normal drill a few days later.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Laughable First off I don't understand why the complexity of the handle grip, and secondly couldn't make it through one 2x4. Something my m18 milwaukee can do with one bar. Straight back to the store.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Missing depth gauge Hammer drill works well in concrete. Annoyed the depth gauge was missing. Good response from Bosch when I reported the missing item and hope to receive the gauge in the mail soon. The extension handle slipped off a couple of times and could be designed better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Chuck slipped a couple of times letting the bit slip. That caused the bit to be be scored and no longer useful. The second bit worked great and continues to work well. We have only used it a few times. We shall see how it performs over time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never Knew What I Was Missing For years, I've been routinely burning out masonry bits trying to bore simple holes in concrete and brick walls. Most of the time they were for wall anchors, but occasionally, I've had the need to snake a wire through walls as well. It's been a long, tedious and totally frustrating process - up until I purchased my Bosch 1/2- Hammer Drill. Having been a longtime fan of battery powered, cordless electric tools, I thought there couldn't be that much difference between a "regular" drill and a "hammer" drill. Boy, I love being wrong when it makes my life simpler. I bought the Bosch Hammer Drill after asking one of my local Lowe's guys what I was doing wrong to burn out my masonry bits. He asked if I was using a hammer drill, and when I told him I didn't own one, he said he'd diagnosed the problem. On his recommendation, I bought one of the drills that was on-sale, but he said would be absolutely acceptable for the kind of projects I had in mind. He was absolutely correct. I took home the drill, three new bits and some confidence that I might have the right tool for the job-finally. I did. Instead of spending 4-6 minutes making minuscule progress, I had the four holes I needed drilled in less than three minutes. Since they were already market, all I had to do was set the drill in place and let it do the work. Since then, I've bored several holes in everything from brick and mortar to a concrete driveway (putting a gate anchor in place). No problems -and even better- no burned out masonry bits. The right tool makes all the difference -and my Lowes always has someone on hand with an insight into what I need.
