Variable Speed Hammer Drill - 7 A - 1/2'' is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product for the $$$ I purchased this drill yesterday and also a couple Bosch hammer-drill bits. I needed four 5/8 holes in a patio slab that has been in place for 50+ years. I'd tried drilling it with a few days ago with a large 1/2 drill I had and was only able to drill an inch after a long time trying. This drill and a new bit (same as used with regular drill, just another one) did the trick in no time, the other three holes were drilled very quickly too. This is a light duty drill, no doubt, don't expect a contractor quality drill that can go all day. But then, you'll not have paid for that. Let it cool down and don't expect it to do things it wasn't meant to. You'll love it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Purchased Today, Going Back Tomorrow Very First use of Drill with a 1/2 inch Bit. Chuck Came loose after about 3 seconds of drilling. Occured in both drill and hammer mode. Tightening the chuck did absolutely no good. As tight a I could manage and still came loose after a few seconds. The teeth on the chuck also break easily as it is tightened. The slippage was so bad that I managed to turn my 1/2 inch shank bit into a 3/8 inch shank. The quality was surprisingly poor and the design of the front grip is also poor. The knob for tightening the front grip is very small and hard to tighten without a set of pliers. Front grip rotates easily during use. Don't think that I will ever purchase Bosch again!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Depends on what you need it to do. This drill works fine for putting holes in cinderblock, brick, or "young", less dense concrete. My garage is typical cinderblock and this drill made hanging shelves go much quicker than a regular drill. I also hung a sign into exterior brick for a friend's business with no problem. This drill is useless (even dangerous) for tough jobs. I have 90 year old house and the foundation walls and basement floor are as tough as steel. I think the walls also have various stones as aggregate in the mix. They laugh at this drill and I snapped and wore down half a dozen bits before I went out and rented a tool up for the task.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quit working with few hours This drill was good value at $89 and drilled well. But it just quit working with very little use on the drill. I pulled the case apart and I have 120v coming out of the trigger but no current thru the windings. I called Bosch and they will charge $68 to fix it. I bought it 4 years ago but again very little use. I can buy a Porter Cable for $70 so that's what I will do. I have high dollar large hammer drills but I need a small one for many jobs. I thought Bosch was a good brand...not this drill. That will be my last Bosch tool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for light and medium duty jobs. Works excellent for drilling masonry; things such as tapcons. I wouldn't expect this drill to deal with really heavy, tough materials. In that case, don't buy a hammer drill - buy a rotary hammer instead (they are different). Pros: - decent price - works great, fast hammering action and reasonably powerful motor - hammer and plain rotary switch, multiple speeds Cons: - cheap plastic depth gauge and T-handle are weakest points - plastic around the switch area scrapes the skin if you aren't using gloves

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not capable Having Bosch table and miter saws I purchased this drill on the company name. WRONG!!! My son burned up the first drill on two holes with a 1/2 inch bit. After holding my tongue about how to use a drill I proceeded to show him how to let the drill do the work. Needless to say, I burned up the second drill on the first hole. l had a Black and Decker 1/2 inch hammer drill for 20 years with no problem until the cord got cut. We expected more out of Bosch. The Bosch chuck key didn't fit properly. The chuck actually started wobbling in the bearing. I just couldn't believe how incapable this drill is. Lowe's, on the other hand, always stands behind products they sell which is the main reason I shop at Lowe's at least once a day. Thank you Lowe's.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First use....I am impressed! I went to Lowes looking for the Hitachi 5/8 that was on sale and ended up taking this home because this is all they had in stock. I needed the drill today and thought I can return it if needed. Got home, drilled about a dozen Tapcon holes with a Tapcon Drill bit in 40 year old concrete and was thoroughly impressed with the hammer action and the speed. I agree with others that the depth gauge is a little cheap plastic, but its a nice feature. The attachment handle felt great and the tool was easy to control. I'm probably going to keep the tool for the occasional concrete drilling that I probably shouldn't be doing, but do anyways...You know what I mean.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed with Bosch I bought this drill because of the reviews, I do wall concrete installations with many projects, drilling holes 1" to 1 1/2" deep with 3/16 tapcon bit, I managed to drill 9 holes and I saw sparks and it stop working, I couldn't finish my job, I had 20 holes left to drill. I was very disappointed and so was my customer as he had expected the job to be completed that day, I returned it and went to Home Depot and bought me the Milwaukee 5/8 in.SDS Rotery hammer drill model#5263-21 it worked like a champ
