What is the difference between a 2 stage & a 3 stage snow blower?

Asked by: 14Earl
A 2 stage snowblower basically picks up the snow entering the mouth of the unit by an auger that runs across the mouth and blows it out a chute.  The 3 stage units do the same but have an additional auger blade facing out that chops up the snow as it enters the unit.  The 3rd stage enables the snowblower to move more snow more quickly but also required more power to do so.

Left lever lock will not release. Brand new unit, not yet started up.

Asked by: Lorneb
If the left lever you are referring too is the far left one, then this controls the auger function.  Follow the cable from the end of the lever.  It runs down to a round slotted guide.  The cable should have some slack (see the user guide for instructions on how to adjust the slack in the cable.  Perhaps the cable is caught on something or the guide needs adjusting, preventing the cable from extending when the lever is released.

What is 'power steering' ? I am wondering if that's the system with a lever below each handle that releases the wheel lock on that side?

Asked by: mikehebert
Thank you for your question. No, the steering trigger controls are located on the underside of the handles of the snow thrower.

Cub Cadet(R) 3-Stage Snowblower - 26" - 357 CC is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Puissante, maniable, légerte bref parfaite.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Chute rotation...I modified..read on My 26" Cub Cabet does the job OK, but after only one year the "joystick" that controls the chute direction failed. Symptoms...loss of control of the movement of the chute or snow exit direction. Called Cub Cadet in Canada...useless!!! Solution...warning....you need a few tools and some patience. I found an old dead snow blower with a crank chute control and for five bucks I mounted the crank mechanism onto my new Cub Cadet. A test run says it works a treat. Joy sticks are for video games...not for snow blowers. Just hoping someone @ MTD Cub Cadet is reading/listening. Best...SHUMBA

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sub Par Customer Service I've owned this snowthrower for just over a year. Since then i have had to get it fixed twice costing $600 this winter season. 1. Dirty and rusty float bowl. 2. Replace shear pins twice. 3. Replace auger belt twice. 4. Replace auger cable twice. All these parts are not under warranty. I have a 30 foot paved driveway and used the machine only 3 times this winter. I would never recommend buying a Cub Cadet product. I tried Cub Cadet customer service and warranty department and was basically called a liar and it's the customers fault. Dont waste your money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great after following MTD Instructions I was initially disappointed with this snow blower the first time I tried it. I called the manufacturer (MTD) who listened to my concerns. I had taken video of the unit only throwing about 80% of the snow and the rest was being pushed out front and to the side. So I had to shovel snow lines, after snowblowing only about 3 inches of snowfall. MTD tech support got back to me the next day and asked if I had only been using first gear, which I was. If so, increase the speed to gear 2 or 3 and try again. I did and it worked perfectly. Also the unit did not travel too fast in these gears which still made it safe around my cars. I also gave it 5 stars because the plow went by another snowstorm leaving wet snow piled about 1.5ft high and this snowblower had no trouble with it. It was so effective I went down the street and did in front of my neighbours homes and driveways in no time. One neighbour commented that his snowblower would not get through it, but this Cub Cadet had zero trouble. Very impressed now that I know first gear is only for especially deep snow. I have included the video of what happens when only first gear is used in shallow snow. The snow is not drawn in but must fall in which doesn't work well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Club Cadet X3 26" Love this Machine!! All the neighbours like it too! Did 4 driveways (after a nasty storm) in record time! Even dispensed with the snow ploughed drifts that boxed people in. The 3-auger system dealt with the hardened snow pack drifts easily. Luv my new "TOY"! H.O.B. 1st Esq

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best snowblower I've ever had This is my third snowblower since about 1995. Where I live in Canada, we sometimes get snowfalls up of 20-30cm, and often have small ones of 2-10 cm. Today I cleared a large snowfall of over 30 cm with no problem. It throws the snow a long way. I like to use it for the small events too - just set it to high speed and scrape the entire driveway in a few minutes. The controls are better than other models I tested, because you can adjust the chute easily while driving. It's easy to release the drive from the wheels and pull it backwards; which is quicker than using the motor to drive backwards. It does have trouble throwing heavy slush, but I think that will happen with any home machine.
