18-in Gas-Powered Chain Saw is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 296.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for around the yard Because of the recent drought, three trees in my yard have died (out of five!). I decided to do the work myself to get rid of them. I had never used a chainsaw before, so I was a bit nervous about what to get. I settled on this one. So far, I have cut down two of the trees and have begun cutting them up into smaller pieces to make it easier to get rid of them. This saw has been great to work with. I haven't had any problems getting it started. It generally keeps running, though I have had to readjust the bar/chain. The only thing that bothers me is that the bar seems a little shaky on it, though I guess other saws could be the same way but I haven't had any experience with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cuts through timber like butter Poulan was recommended by a friend, but I wasn't certain what size. Since I am almost 65, weight was a factor. It is light enough and well balanced enough for me to handle without a problem. I also like that they give you a foot hold in the handle in order to allow leverage when pulling the starter. It really saves on the back. If you follow the directions for starting, it will start immediately. Maybe two pulls sometimes. I read reviews where some people not able to start this, so I was concerned. It is easy to hit the forty to one ratio of oil to gas mixture, and from what I understand, that is an issue with some. If so, that's not Poulan's problem. This saw is a gem and paid for itself in one day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from first chainsaw purchase I bought this chainsaw (my first chainsaw) to remove quite a few heavy 20 year overgrown shubs and a few medium sized trees. Chainsaw works wonderfully and I completed all tasks within about three hours operating time. This will also come in handy in case there are anymore ice storms or heavy storms. If this is your first chainsaw, make sure you read instruction manually thoroughly. Buy bar oil, none is included. Buy a 1 gallon container to mix gasoline with 34 oz 2 cycle oil with (40:1 ratio, 34 oz 2 cycle oil supplied). I am satisfied with purchased. This probably isn't for commercial use, but, for residential use it should be fine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good for a homeowner. I just purchased my house and needed to have a couple of large locust trees taken down. I told the tree service to just drop them and I'd take care of them from there. I used this saw to make probably 70 cuts to reduce the trees to firewood sized pieces. Having owned a Stihl in the past I was skeptical as to how well this would do, but I'll say that I was pleasantly surprised. Locust is a hard wood and it was alive when it was felled - so it was heavy, dense, and full of water. This saw did a nice job - but you cant force it, let the saw do the work.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bought on Friday returned Saturday. Went against my better judgement and bought this on Friday only to return it the next day. It cut well and fairly fast while it worked. However it did not work long. Used it to buck one tree that I'd felled the week previous and to partially fell another tree. While cutting the back cut I turned it off to check/adjust the chain while I inserted a felling wedge in the backcut. Went to start it back up and it started up but stalled would stall out the comment throttle was applied. Checked the common culprits and everything was fine. Decided to let it sit and try a cold start. Didn't work. Not wanting anymore headache than what I already had I went back to Lowe's and returned it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well satisfied with it's performance. Let me add some info. I'm 75 and have used a chain saw for well over 40 years, and have worn out two saws of other brands, this is my first purchase of a Poulan saw. I used it this week to cut up a tree that fell across my daughter's driveway. This tree was big and because of limbs did not completely hit the ground, was still some five feet or so above ground. My previous saws were only 16 inch bars and only 35cc. This one is 42cc, and an 18 inch bar. I had to cut from both sides of the tree to cut it up into handleable sizes. Took over 2 hours of cutting, and it performed well and satisfactorily. Would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Saw for the Money I just purchased this little saw, being hesitant about owning anything less than a Stihl. My New Stihl was just stolen about 6 months ago and I just couldn't see spending another $500 for the same saw again that soon. I was also concerned from some of the reviews about the starting problem they had, but I have had no problems whatsoever. Just followed the starting instructions and it works every time the first time for me. This saw is well worth the money, does it compare to a $500 Stihl, no, but why would anyone expect it to? It has plenty of power for 12" Oak and seems to be built well. I don't know about longevity yet, but I don't see any reason to be worried. Don't hesitate to purchase this saw as a homeowner, you will most likely be pleased.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible chain saw Purchsed Poulan Pro 42 for some limbing of a cottonwood tree. It would run for 20-30 minutes then quit and then it would not start unless it sat for 20-30 minutes. Net result is 20-30 minutes of operation in an hour. What really made it frustrating is that I had rented a man lift to the tune of +$200 per day. Could not afford to finish the project with this chain saw and could not return in back to Lowes fast enough. The good news is that Lowes accepted the return without any issue. It should be called the Poulin Fourth Team vs the Pro. Don't even think about buying this saw. In the past I owned a Husqvarna and will purchase another one.
