So that your annuals and perennials grow out instead of up, don't be too generous with water and the 20-20-20 type all-purpose fertilizers. Abundant watering (preferably in the morning), followed by long periods of dryness, will force them to widen, while more frequent watering risks having them grow upward, while favoring fungal and insect infestations, weed development and root rot. |
