Outdoor clean-up tips: where to begin?

The warm weather’s on its way and that means it’s time to get cracking on tidying up the yard! A thorough outdoor spring clean might seem like hard work, but you will be rewarded with a pleasant, organized and relaxing area in which to enjoy the summer to the full. And if you are planning to sell your home, a spring spruce-up is an absolute must. Even the simplest maintenance jobs like cleaning, small repair work and decluttering the yard and deck are sufficient to give your home sparkling new curb appeal.

Small jobs and minor repairs

Cold, snow, ice, thaw, wind… All winter long, your house is exposed to the harsh elements and may have suffered some damage. Begin by inspecting your property thoroughly to see if any small jobs need doing that could save you costly repairs later. Look at the roof. If any shingles are missing or damaged, replace them. If the entire roof needs to be recovered, asphalt shingles are always a reliable choice, but did you know that there are other attractive and effective options available, too?

This is also a good time to clean the gutters or, if the existing ones are damaged, to put up new gutters in PVC or aluminum. Go around the outside of the house to see if the siding has been damaged at all by the wind. You can easily replace vinyl siding that’s broken. Maybe you’d like a change of decor? New vinyl siding or a fresh coat of paint are all it takes to give your home a stylish allure that will turn heads.

Cleaning and tidying

Clean up and put away any unused items or remnants of winter that are still lying around! Tidying the backyard will help you to see the space more clearly so you can make the most of the warmer days to come. The garage offers space to store any equipment you won’t be using again until next winter, as well as to organize those items you’ll be needing frequently during the summer, such as the lawn mower, edge trimmer and other gardening tools. Make sure you are able to find what you want, when you want it, by organizing your garage and shed with storage solutions that meet your needs.
