Style mix

In this contemporary kitchen, the subtle mix of materials confers elegance and charm. The ultra-dark brown wood cabinets, along with the oak laminate accent wall, bamboo flooring, and stainless steel appliances and accessories, have been cleverly combined to make a sumptuous, welcoming space with modern appeal. The kitchen island – the central feature of the room – is a great place for the family to gather as well as being a practical food preparation area, offering a large work surface and lots of storage space. We love the small lunch counter, made from oak laminate and built into one side of the island, slightly above countertop level – the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat. The rich, traditional materials used in this kitchen complement the room’s up-to-the-minute design.

Aquatic charms

Aquarium fans will love this fabulous entrance feature – an oversize tropical fish tank built into the wall, creating a translucent divide between the light-filled entrance hall and the living room. In fact, it is simply a very solid wooden box structure built directly on the ground, with a space for the aquarium. The same types of wood and moulding were used for the top and bottom of the tank, and the whole piece was stained a rich chocolate brown. In the daytime, the water filters the natural light between the rooms, and in the evening the aquarium lighting creates a soothing atmosphere. This fabulous natural feature brings colour and life to the room.

Mellow neutrals

With its generous cream and ruddy beige tones, soft fabrics and comfy furniture, this living room is so simple, yet so inviting and relaxing. Rich textures and fabrics create warmth: velvet upholstery, opaque full-length curtains, a super-soft throw and some toning cushions. Long stalks of dried grass turn a plain wall into a feature, adding to the nature-inspired decor and echoing the flowing seaweed in the aquarium. Elegance at its most simple.
