Blue refreshes, appeases and stimulates meditation. It creates a psychological shield against the frantic onrush of daily activities. In short, it is the ideal peaceful colour.

Be aware that:

The headboard in the picture was made from a MDF, 14-mm thick (5/8"). Final dimensions are approximately 1.22-m long, 45-cm wide and 10 cm-thick. The wave pattern that forms the façade was cut using a jigsaw. A lighting system was installed under the headboard to allow for comfortable reading in bed.

Tips

Once the work is completed, we advise against varnishing the headboard, as the varnish would ruin the textured Suede effect.

It is always useful to have a bucket of water on hand when working. It allows you to rinse your paintbrushes when you do not have the time to wash them as you go along.

Adapt your plan

Here is a basic plan for this headboard.

1. Prepare the surface

For maximum durability, it is important that the surface be well prepared. Sand lightly and apply a base coat of Primer Sealer/Duo Latex. Let dry for 4 hours.

2. Roll on two coats of Picardy

Roll on two coats of Picardy (C204-22) over the surface of the headboard panel. Let each coat dry between 6 to 8 hours.

3. Apply the untinted Dunes Suede

Using a flexible metal or plastic spatula, apply randomly the untinted Dunes Suede on the headboard surface, holding the spatula flat. Be sure to leave small spaces that will let the base colour show through. Let dry for 6 to 8 hours.

4. Prepare and apply the glaze

Tint the Mascarade Glaze with Cape Cod (B202-32) using 3 parts glaze to one part paint. Apply the glaze using a paintbrush, scattering colour spots of various sizes over the surface. To achieve the "rub on" effect, dip the paintbrush in the glaze and rub the bristles over the surface obliquely, leaving a very fine coat of tinted glaze over the panel.

5. Trace and paint the motifs

Using the white chalk or pencil, trace the spiral motifs. Use an artist paintbrush to paint them in Pearlescent Artifice Blue.
