Installing a lockset
Why not replace the handle on your front door, at the same time you’d be increasing the security of your household/residence. Installation requires minimal knowledge, tools, and effort, as well as being time and cost efficient, especially if the door is already bored. This chronicle will guide you through the installation of a door handle made up of two pieces (a door handle /knob and a dead bolt locking system).
Before starting, first measure the thickness of your door in order to choose an appropriate model. Next, check the dimensions of the holes destined to recieve the deadbolt and the door knob with the help of a (patron gabarit) included with the door handle set. Compare the dimensions of the holes. If they are suitable for the door handle that you’ve purchased proceed directly to step 3. If otherwise, or if your door is non-bored, proceed to step 2.
2. Drilling or enlarging the holes
Place the template(patron or the gabarit) of the lock on the door. This piece of paper shows you where to drill the holes for the deadbolt. Fix the template in position with masking tape.
Drill or enlarge the hole exactely where it is indicated on the template. Use a basket drill bit with your drill, this consists of a stem with a toothed cylindrical extremity. It fits on a shaft equipped whit a centering bit ( on your drill, the hole used to fix the plug) To determine the diameter of the basket drill bit required, refer to the template.
Note: To avoid damaging the door, drill your holes on one side until the dirll bit comes out the other end. Repeat this proceedure from the other side.
2.1
Once this is done, place a flat mesh bit on your drill and bore the holes which will serve for the deadbolt, on the side of the door. The deadbolt is the part of the lock that fits into the mortise, which is the hole in the door frame. Again, refer to the template to determine what size of drill bit (diameter) is required.
Repeat these steps for the holes destined for the door handle latch, as required.
3. Installing the deadbolt lock
Slide the deadbolt into the lateral hole.
3.1
Begin by inserting the portion of the lock that has the barillet through the hole. Next add the piece with the turnpiece trim (bouton the coulisse) and secure it using the mounting screws provided for this task. make sure the screws go throught the deadbolt lock mechanism.
