Vinyl siding is normally delivered with installation instructions from the manufacturer. It's important to follow such instructions to the letter to avoid buckling caused by dilation and contraction of the vinyl due to temperature variations. Beware of adjustments that are too tight!
Do not drive nails in completely so as to leave room for the siding to expand and contract with changing temperatures.
1. Nail the first panel
Nail the first panel to a horizontal furring after tracing a line with a mason's line at the bottom of the surfaces you wish to cover, making sure every thing is on the level.
2. Install mouldings on corners
Install vertical mouldings on exterior corners first, interior corners next. Use the upper part of the nail slot for the top nails only. Be sure the corner mouldings are square and solid, as they will affect the rest of the installation.
3. Install the J-shaped channels
Install the J-shaped channels around the windows. The ends of the siding panels will eventually be tucked into the "J". For the top of the doors and windows, first install a drip before installing the J-shaped channel to which you will integrate the vinyl panels.
