Important notes

Make sure you take into account all the municipal by-laws governing the building of sheds before construction begins.

For a durable construction, your foundation must be stable. Prepare a foundation which is suitable to the nature of the soil. Drain as needed. For the following project, we recommend a concrete block foundation.

Make sure all the parts mentioned in the manufacturer’s kit are there. Because some parts of the shed are heavy, you will need help with this project. Even though most of the work can be done with two people, it is highly recommended to have three people on hand, especially when lifting and assembling the structure. Always verify that the parts assembled are level.

1. Preparing the foundation

1.1

Mark the location with stakes and string and remove the lawn inside this perimeter.

1.2

Dig to at least 4 in. in depth, lay out a geotextile membrane and add 4 in. of crushed stone on top. Compact so as to have everything level.

1.3

Position the concrete blocks on the gravel, having one block at each corner, and one block centered between two corner blocks, that is to say a minimum of eight blocks. The blocks must be level with one another.

1.4

Lay a geotextile membrane on the ground, covering the entire area under the garden shed.

2. Building the floor

2.1

Prepare the base of the floor with 2 × 4 in. boards.

2.2

Make sure the floor is square and level.

2.3

Screw and glue the sheets of 5/8 in. plywood on the floor joists.

3. Preparing the structure

3.1

Assemble the roof trusses.

3.2

Prepare the bracing pieces for the lateral walls.

3.3

Nail the exterior panels on the wall bracings.

3.4

Leave the assembled lateral walls on the ground.

3.5

Prepare the walls for the front and back with wood supplied by the manufacturer.
