Creating a crackling-effect bathtub

Presented by: Laurentide

Project inspiration: "If pleasure exists and can only be enjoyed in life, it follows that life is happiness.", signed Casanova.

Joy, pleasure, exaltation, passion, happiness, greed, love, extravagance are the words that best describe Casanova, as well as the shapes, colours and materials of this flamboyant bathroom.

The Commedia dell'arte, its theatre, games, costumes and characters exude fantasy and poetry, and translate into a plethora of small details that bathe in light as they would on a stage.

1. Prepare the bathtub

In order to properly prepare the outside of the bathtub if it has already been painted in oil, use a roller to apply Alkyd Undercoater and let dry at least 16 hours.

2. Apply two coats of Palladium

Use a roller to apply two coats of Palladium (C-208-12) Velvet Finish Super Latex 100 % acrylic Titanium. Let each coat dry least 4 hours.

3. Mask the contours

Mask the contours of the bathtub to protect them from the crackling you will apply in the next step.

4. Apply the crackling

Use the small roller to apply a coat of Nostalgia Crackling. Let dry approximately one hour or until tack-free.

5. Apply a coat of Pearlescent

Use the small roller to apply a coat of Pearlescent Artifice. Be sure to adequately soak the roller in Pearlescent and cover the surface as quickly as possible to avoid having to go over the same surface too often and interfere with the chemical reaction of the crackling.

6. Varnish

In order to protect the crackling effect, we recommend you apply a coat of Brïo Acrylic Varnish, Velvet Finish 24 hours after the paint is dry.

7. Patinize the tub's feet

In order to prepare the surface of the bathtub legs properly, if they have already been painted in oil, use a paintbrush to apply a coat of Alkyd Undercoater and let dry for at least 16 hours.

7.1

Use a paintbrush to apply two coats of Pearlescent Copper. Let dry at least 4 hours after each coat.

7.2

You will achieve the transparent effect using a glaze tinted with Five O'Clock Tea (P207-41). Prepare the glaze by mixing 3 parts glaze to 1 part paint.

7.3

Use a paintbrush to apply the glaze uniformly on the legs. Remove, in spots, using the damp rag. The oxidised copper effect will be achieved when the glaze remains in the dents of the legs and forms small stains. When you have achieved the desired effect, let dry for at least 24 hours.

7.4

To protect the effect and ease cleaning, we recommend you apply a coat of Brïo Varnish, Velvet Finish 24 hours after the glaze is dry.
The bathroom is an ideal place to let your imagination run free.
