1. Make a groove in the beam

Using a router, make a 2 x 6 in. (50 mm x 152 mm) groove in the beam intended to support the window frame. The width of the groove should be the same as the thickness of the pane selected. The depth is usually 1/8 in. (3 mm).

2. Shape the four sides

Cut the stud in four to shape the four sides of the window frame. Make sure to cut the pieces at a 45° angle for assembly. Nail the vertical pieces to the horizontal pieces to form two "L" shapes.

3. Assemble the window

Apply silicone-based paintable caulking in the grooves before inserting the pane into one of the two "L"s. Finish the assembly with the second "L" and nail the two pieces together.

4. Stabilize the panes

Before putting the panes into place, apply silicone over the two flat sides of a quarter-round moulding. Finish by applying silicone above and below the quarter-round moulding.
It's simple and not expensive at all.
