Make sure all electrical requirements are available.
2. Measure the equipment
Determine the dimensions of the equipment, including the space required for CDs and videos. Measure the depth of the components and add at least 3 inches more to create air space for the equipment to "breathe".
3. Mark the positions
Measure and mark the wall position. Snap chalk lines for the top plate, end studs and sole plate.
Install the plates
Now that every thing is well planned and prepared, you may install the top and sole plates.
4. Build a wall
Build a wall with 2-by-4s every 16 inches on centre, as you would a partition wall, allowing for the openings for your components.
Install reinforced shelves
Install reinforced shelves strong enough to support the weight of the TV (unless it stands on the floor and doesn't require a shelf).
Build boxes
For the other components and material such as CDs, DVDs and cassettes, build open-ended reinforced boxes. Secure these boxes to the corresponding opening in the wall. Add any structural support necessary.
5. Build a support for the TV
When the wall is in place and if the TV warrants it when standing on the floor, build a support floor, using 1/2-inch plywood or a similar composite-type board. Let the depth and width of the TV be your guide.
Finishing
To finish the wall, use drywall or medium-density fibreboard (MDF) and any trims or mouldings desired. To achieve a consistent wall texture, use drywall, finishing the openings with a corner bead or half bead. For a smoother painted surface, use MDF (often used for kitchen cabinets).
You will find it so handy and very decorative as well.
