This well thought up desk, practical and aesthetic, which you can paint to your liking is relatively simple to build.
Although this plan proposes a painted MDF construction, a do-it-yourselfer who wants natural wood furniture may prefer to replace MDF with pine, cherry wood or an exotic wood essence matching existing furniture, and then tint it to the desired colour.
The detailed plan of this oasis style desk can be yours for free. It includes a list of the materials and tools required for building this furniture, as well as cutting planes and a list of the different pieces to cut. Assembly drawings illustrate the steps to follow in order to complete your project. For reading and printing this document, you will need Acrobat Reader.
Although they are not included in the plan, you must take into consideration finishing materials.
You can use either flathead woodscrews or a nailer with finishing nails, to assemble the desk. If you choose to use screws, always pre-drill a hole for the screws; the panel may split otherwise.
Always try to join parts on a flat surface. Make sure they fit precisely to one another and that they are square. Whether you choose to use screws or a nailer, glue all parts for added sturdiness.
Finition: MDF desk: Fill the holes or imperfections with latex-based wood filler. Apply an undercoat of latex paint. The glossier the surface, the easier it will be to maintain. Let dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Apply two coats of latex paint.
Wood desk: Apply a coat of stain followed by a wood sealer and varnish. Let dry and sand lightly with an ultra-fine sponge sanding block between each coat of varnish.
