This handsome wooden book stand provides a quick and easy way to keep books tidy. The following plan is for a stand 51 ¾" long x 10 ¾" high x 7 ¼" deep, but you can add as many sections as you like.
Made from a single pine board, the stand can be varnished, stained or painted. Depending on how you place it, you benefit from either two or three storage compartments.

Always hold the drill at right angles to the surface being drilled.
Using the countersink bit, bore four holes in parts A: two on one side and two on the other. The centre of each hole must be 1 ½" from one side of A and ¾" from one end, as shown. The countersunk part of the holes must be ½" deep, i.e. the same length as the plugs.

Using the countersink bit, bore two holes on just one side of parts B. The centre of each hole must be 1 ½" from one side and ¾" from one end, as shown. The countersunk part of the hole must be ½" deep.

Using the 3/32" bit, bore two holes 1 ½" deep at one end of each part C. The holes must be 1 ½" from the sides and halfway across the thickness of the board.

Using the 3/32" bit, bore two holes 1 ½" deep at both ends of each part D. The holes must be 1 ½" from the sides and halfway across the thickness of the board.
Assembly
All the pieces must be glued first and then screwed together.
Assemble each section by gluing and screwing one part A to the end of one part D. Make as many sections as you wish.
Assemble all the A-D sections. This plan includes two sections.
Fasten a part C to the end of the first part A and a part B to the end of the last part D.
Dab some glue into the countersunk holes made previously and insert the plugs. Sand as needed so that the plugs are flush with the wood surface.
Paint, stain or varnish.
This simple project can be adapted to fit your space by adding sections. Keep books, files and magazines neat, tidy and handy with this unique and decorative book stand.
