Build a bench - global village style

Covered with comfy cushions to match the decor, this elegant bench is the perfect partner to the wall-mount shelf unit, offering handy storage and decorative display space.

This bench is made from oak-finish plywood and the edges covered with oak veneer edge banding. The following plan is for a bench 30" wide by 20" high and 15" deep, but you can of course adapt the dimensions to fit your space. The oak finish on the bench can be stained or varnished. However, if you plan to paint it, we recommend using 3/4” MDF, which costs less but gives great results. The bench is nailed together with finishing nails. For greater solidity, wood brackets can be screwed under the seat for support. If you have chosen to make your bench from MDF, we strongly recommend using this method.

The detailed plan is yours for free. It includes a list of the materials and tools required for building a bare casing, as well as cutting planes and a list of the different pieces to cut. Assembly drawings illustrate the steps to follow in order to complete your project. For reading and printing this document, you will need Acrobat Reader.

The plan for the peg is also available for download.
