Bath and shower: when space matters
In a small bathroom, fitting tub and shower stylishly and comfortably into an area of just a few square feet can be quite a challenge. But by making the best possible use of the space and with the right materials it is possible to integrate these two indispensable elements harmoniously and to great effect. By using colour to its best advantage and selecting clear, bright materials such as glass, stone and ceramic, you can create a blissful bathroom. Here are some pointers to get you started. Let your imagination do the rest!
With space at a premium in this bathroom, the challenge was to integrate a stylized, practical shower that also let the light in. This was quite simply achieved by making the most of the small area at the end of the bath. Glass panels were installed just at the end of the bathtub to create a partition “wall”, and a glass shower door was added. The shower walls were decorated with the same ceramic as on the bath surround. Note the small section of bath deck within the shower area, which provides a handy ledge for shower gel, soap and shampoo, and which could also be used as a seat if needed. The pale colours – beige and white – and the subtle recessed lighting above the tub instil calm and tranquility and increase the perception of space. So simple yet so attractive!
Pure and white
White is the name of the game in this bathroom. The immaculate white tub is under-mounted in an elegant surround with pure marble top and attractive wood-panelled sides. The generous corner space offered the potential to install a huge glass and ceramic shower. White tiles around the bathtub and on the shower walls lend a contemporary edge and blend harmoniously with the floor-to-ceiling beadboard panelling. The sleek modern faucet and shower fixtures add grandeur and chic to this pure, ultra-simple look.
Fresh and pampered
In this light, airy bathroom, the bathtub and shower occupy separate corners of the room. The tub surround was made to blend with the decor by painting it white and adding square frames made from strips of moulding, decorated with horizontal stripes in the same pale blue and apple green as the walls. These lighter colours lend a fresh feel but other stronger shades could be just as effective. Attractive shelving to show off candles and bath products, as well as hooks for hanging clothes and towels complete the picture. A refreshing and vivifying look that’s easy to achieve.
